Who do you think will be the next men's player to win his first Grand Slam tournament? Some candidates I have in mind are Gasquet, Murray, Davydenko and Nalbandian. They are all talented players but, for various reasons, have never performed at their best at the Slams. Who's your pick? Feel free to name anyone you want.

  1. I had always thought Davydenko could and would do it. However he can be so erratic but has the game, power, strokes, for all court surfaces. This weeks breather he is taking, could be what he needs and actually get himself to be a slam champion this year.

I agree with the others mentioned, just not sure if they will do it first. Nalbandian seesm to win huge Masters Series events but cant get a slam, and might be running out of time.

I think Berdych could and will be a slam champ as well, and might do so on grass this year. My longshot is Soderling.

  2. I agree with your picks and would also add Ferrer to this mix.  The way he finished last year was inspiring.  This year he finally seems to be waking up and picking up some steam again.

  3. i would say davydenko before any of them. just the way nikolay has improved the last few months on his serve and his shotmaking, not to mention his confidence, since just last year,he could. of course,he'd have to keep that level consistent. but i would predict though,if anywhere, would be on a hard court like US Open or Aus before either of the others.

murray.....he's still young and is still trying to improve, and he certainly has the talent. and he's had the wins. just a matter of time,really-he just needs to string together the elements on a consistent(repetition,i know) basis.

i dunno about gasquet....till he can overcome his head and start playing matches he should be playing well, often,he will never get that far. i hope he will but so far i haven't seen a great mental toughness from him....he just melts as he did against querrey.

  4. I think James Blake will be the next one to win he has never won and he can get lucky and win the US OPEN

  5. i say gasquet. he always seems to be in semis or the quarters in every tournament hes in but he never actually makes it through and wins. i think he can break through one day though.

  6. i say davydenko... playing in the semi-finals in monte carlo.... and won miami few weeks ago...

  7. All these players are pretty good however i doubt they`ll be the first to win a grand slam. Lets face it the top 3 Federer/Nadal and hate to say it Djokovic are going to be the ones who win a grandslam this year. More so Nadal at Roland Garros :) To answer your question i reckon Rafa will be the first guy to win  :P !

  8. Nalbandian if he is more consistent. If he can reproduce the form of last year where he demolished Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, a grand slam should be within reach.

Davydenko has the shots to win a grand slam but Nadal and Federer always seem to have an edge against him.

The other two you mentioned, in my opinion, are not good enough against the top guys.

  9. My pick is Gasquet for Wimbledon or US Open.

I feel like he is on the brink of reaching what he has been meant for ever since his childhood. He just needs to overcome his mental level thats all. Aaprt from him no one really.

  10. I would have to say Nalbandian. He has beaten all the top players made it to a final and he is usually always in the mix at grand slams. Nalbandian is one of the few people who actually can beat Federer, even when Fed is not in a slump, and that speaks wonders. He has the game to win grand slams just need to get past some nerves and mental  challenges and he will win.

  11. Definitely Tomas Berdych!Hes the best striker of the ball and is a huge talent.

  12. I should think Andy Murray will win at Wimbledon within the next 4 years. He is good on grass and with the home support he could do it. He played 2 years back and lost a tight 5 set match in the 4th round but he missed last year with injury but this year he has improved a lot and he has the belief he can win. Gasguet will never win an grand slam because he isn't mentally tough enough as shown by his loss to querrey the in monte carlo days ago. Other players with a chance are obviously Davydenko, Ferrer and Nalbandian.
