Question:

Who will be the next batsman to try the switch-hit?

Now that the MCC have decided the shot is legitimate, although they are still to consider further the lbw and wide laws in relation to it, surely the world's leading batsmen will all follow Pietersen's lead and attempt to add the switch-hit to their armoury. Just as the reverse sweep has become an accepted part of the game.

My question is, who do you think will be the first to attempt it?

And will they be as successful at it as Pietersen or not? :)

  1. I don't think too many will, it's quite a feat I believe & you'd have to be awfully good to make it work!

  2. In my opinion, the switch hit is not too different from the reverse sweep.  The only difference is that more power is put into the switch hit. Many batters will try it in the future.  We cannot say who will be the next one to try this.  We can expect unorthodox batters like Shahid Afridi, or MS Dhoni, or Symonds to try it but don't quote me on that.

But why is the switch hit getting so much attention only now?

Pietersen first brought out the switch-hit against Murali in a test match last year, when he hit him for six.  Paul Nixon (former england wk) also hit Murali for a six employing the switch-hit.  So why all the attention now?

  3. probably Donni~

    Lol

  4. I reckon many batsmen are wishing that they could do such a move, and everyone will try and trying to do it if they can, it is such a decieving style that could devastate the bowler coz one minute they are left handed then turn into a right handed...  now that it is legit they should enforce a rule to inform the umpire first before they proceed the game just like what bowlers do.... it is just for fairness to the bowlers who make out some plan for the right/left handed batsmen...

  5. younus khan he tryes it all da time but fails i can see alot of cricketers try the ones which are strong to be hones lyke gayle and symonds.

  6. i wouldnt have a clue, David Hussey maybe just a guess

only answered to let Kinney know i gave her the star i promised for disturbing her! LOL

  7. I guess Mike Hussey because he's quick to react & is a great timer of the ball.

Dhoni could also be, because of his unorthodox playing style.

I think Douglas Marrilier has already played such a stroke in the past.

  8. I think that many will try it - probably the main users of the reverse sweep. But, I'm not sure whether they will be as sucessful as KP - after all it need the perfect switch in grip and stance - both have to be in one movement else you have no chance of playing it sucessfully. It looks like KP's practiced it a lot.

I'll be trying it in a future net session - as Nasser Hussain said 'The best thing about that shot apart from the great entertainment for the crowd, is that kids right across the country (and the world) will try to replicate that shot. Oh and when I try it I'll be trying to hit the ball right handed as I bat left handed normally.

  9. collingwood

  10. Great question Kinney.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bloke who features in my avatar decides it would be worth a try once the bowlers have an answer to his walking down the pitch.

Of course, it would take an incredibly brave man to switch-hit a quickie!

  11. i say those batsman who prefer to scoop the ball .........

    most probably robin utthappa

  12. dohni

  13. Sreesant
