Even though last night's fight was close he will drop out of the top 10. I have a feeling that Pavlik will debut at #9 and Winky will drop to #10. What do you think?

Here are the current Ring Magazine pound for pound rankings as of 02-25-08:

1. Floyd Mayweather Welterweight

2. Manny Pacquiao Jr. Lightweight

3. Juan Manuel Marquez Jr. Lightweight

4. Bernard Hopkins Lt. Heavyweight

5. Joe Calzaghe Super Middleweight

6. Israel Vazquez Jr. Featherweight

7. Miguel Cotto Welterweight

8. Ricky Hatton Welterweight

9. Winky Wright Middleweight

10. Rafael Marquez Jr. Featherweight

  1. I'll go with a combination of what you think and the other people who already answered.    I live in St Pete, FL.....home of Winky Wright and I believe that there is no way he should be in the top 10 p4p........his last fight he lost to Hopkins........the fight before he fought an undersized, rusty Ike Quartey and won a decision and the fight before that he fought Taylor for the Middleweight title and blew his chance at a rematch............I don't think he deserves to be in the top 10 until he gets a win against a legit opponent again..............so...............I would drop Winky out.............Put Pavlik at #9 and keep Marquez at #10...........no matter what I think that Marquez is a more deserving pound for pound guy than Winky right now.............

  2. I don't think that loss will harm Marquez's status, it was a very close fight, and a lot of people though he won.  Vasquez sure didn't look like the the winner, he was all busted up with cuts over both eyes and bad swelling.  Marquez had a little mouse over one eye, but Vasquez looked like he had been in a war.  I only caught the last couple rounds of the rebroadcast, I haven't watched the whole fight yet, but it was a razor think split decision for Vasquez.  It might drop him out of the ratings, but if Hatton's KO loss to Mayweather didn't knock Ricky out of the top ten, I don't think a fight as close as this one will harm Marquez's standings.

  3. I agree with thekeithinator, but at the same time I would rather have Pavlik or Juan Diaz take his spot. Ring wont drop Winky and leave Marquez at 10 and since he did lose I believe Ring would replace him and leave Winky up there.

  4. I agree with Blogbaba....

Further, if anything, last nights fight only raised, or at least maintained Marquez status as one of the premier fighters in the world. The only way a fighters' status would diminish is if he would lose in a terrible mismatch - (Ricardo Mayorga - Oscar De La Hoya), or win in a snooze fest (Wladimir Klitscko - Sultan Ibragamov), which none apply to the back and forth, no holds bars, close split decision slugfest that took place yesterday. It was just an amazing performance by both Mexican warriors.

  5. Juan Diaz and Kelly Pavlik definitely deserve to be ahead of him as well as Chris John who beat Juan Manuel Marquez and is still undefeated to this day. I would have him in the top 20 but I could probably list 14 ahead of him. Good question.
