Question:

Who will replace Tim Russert?

With the sad passing of one of the greatest and most well liked political analysts on television, NBC has a difficult task ahead for the next few months. Tim Russert held multiple positions on NBC: he was their Washington Bureau chief, "Meet the Press" moderator, and he provided analysis for "Today," "Nightly News," and on election night. For the time being, the news director Jeff Zucker will probably be content to have Andrea Mitchell and David Gregory provide analysis on weekdays, and will probably let Gregory or Tom Brokaw moderate this Sunday.

But for the long term, who can fill the massive shoes he left? The New York Times reports that NBC may hand over "Meet the Press" to Brokaw, Gregory or even Brian Williams in the short term, and go from there. In the long term, many consider the political director, Chuck Todd to be Russert's heir apparant. Gwen Iffel of PBS and suprisingly Katie Couric, now of CBS have also been discussed. What do you think?

  1. I think Bob Sheifer (sp?) of CBS said it best when he said that it will take many people to fill Tim Russert's shoes.  I think they will probably separate each of Russert's positions and divide them up among several of their other journalists.  RIP Tim, you will be missed

  2. Although many people have been floating Chuck Todd's name, I don't think that he'll get the post. He just doesn't have the same style as Russert and I think NBC will want someone who can keep the old viewers. They may have Todd be the bureau chief and someone else as Meet the Press anchor.

I believe that David Gregory is Russert's heir and will replace him as anchor of Meet the Press. His show on MSNBC (Race to the White House) greatly resembles the panel episodes of MTP and he has a strong reporting style.

One of my favorite qualities of Russert was his ability to ask the tough questions and get answers. After watching David Gregory for a while, I think he has that same ability.

Gregory is also well connected in Washington because of his tenure as White House correspondent. He may have made some enemies, but conservatives and liberals respect him. If he were the host, Gregory could book some good guests.

  3. Nancy Grace will get the job. Why did Tim leave his shoes there?

  4. I heard they are seriously looking at Flav O Flav or Cesar Milan.
