Who will rival Tseng in 2012?
Yani Tseng kept her rivals at bay last season as she remained unbeatable in most of the events she participated in. However, it remains to be seen whether she will be able to clinch a major championship this season.
Taiwanese Yani Tseng is likely to see tough competition ahead, as other players have already geared up for the big events slated for the 2012 season.
Given her past record, Tseng is considered to be the most dominant player in women's golf.
Tseng is best known for her unmatched consistency and hard work, and this is what will help her beat her rivals in major championships.
The 22-year-old Tseng has racked up 7 events in 2011 Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) Tour.
Her profile also includes 2 major championships. As far as the money list goes, she has made more than $2.92 million on the LPGA Tour.
However, American Christie Kerr can pose a serious challenge to Tseng, as she has bagged $1.47 million.
Christie Kerr maintains remarkable scores, she had a stroke average of 69.66, which is so far one of the best.
Moreover, another player who can give Tseng a run for her money is Na Yeon Choi. Choi stands second with a 70.53 stroke average.
24-years-old, Choi has won a total of 5 major events in her pro career. Her victories in the major events earned her great respect, as she was the youngest player to win the most major events at just 24.
Other players who may try to overrun the Taiwanese are Suzann Pettersen and Karrie Webb.
Suzann Pettersen is the most spectacular, as she won eight LPGA Tour events. Moreover, she also grabbed 5 tournaments played under the auspices of the Ladies European Tour.
Tseng' career has inspired young female golfers, as she is often compared with the 14-time grand slam winner Tiger Woods. Woods is chasing the record Jack Nicklaus, who grabbed 18 major championships.
Given Tiger's track record, it seems that he may not be able to break the record of Jack Nicklaus. However, Tseng finds herself in a better position, as she has shown resilience in the past matches and can beat Patty Berg's record of 15 major victories.
Asian Women golfers are dominating the world of women golf, with media giving massive attention to them in the United States.
It has been a long time since any of the American female golf players reached the No.1 position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Before Tseng, Mexican Lorena Ochoa had the crown of being the No.1 and before that, Annika Sorenstam ruled the world of golf. In between Tseng and Ochoa, Jiyai Shin also held the first position for 7 weeks.
Tseng managed 5 wins in the 11 events that she has played since June 2011 and is always a favourite whenever she tees up.
She has become relatively proficient in English and can talk to the media easily. Likewise, she interacts with her fans cheerfully.
She gained so much popularity that the General Manager of Puerto Rico Open, Sidney Wolf, offered her to play at the Puerto Rico Open and said that he would like her to play in the PGA event in 2012.
“Having the number one player here would open our event to a broader audience", he said."It could open up the possibility of an LPGA event here, and ultimately help us raise funds for our charities”.
With the new golf season kicking off this year, only time will unfold Yani Tseng’s true rivals, and whether she will retain her top ranking or not.
