Nalbandian will win. He knows how to beat Roger, and clay is going to make it easier for him to get balls back. And he has troubled Roger on clay before.

The real Roger Federer will have to show up for Nalbandian. Federer is motivated. He knows how to beat Nalbandian, and has a 2-1 winning record on clay against him. The only time Nalbie beat Federer on clay was in 2002. Clay is going to make it easier for Federer to get Nalbie’s angled balls back. Federer has gotten used to the faster Monte Carlo clay with each match. His new deadly forehand drop shot will expose Nalbie’s court coverage.

Nalbie did beat Federer the last two times they met (Madrid and Paris). But did you know that--of the 310 total points played between them in both Masters events--Nalbie had won only 4 more points than Federer did (the first match was dead even).  If Federer won just two or three of the right points in each match, he would have won both matches. Their matches were far closer than Nalbie’s beating of Nadal and Djokovic.

Nalbandian has already played 15 matches on clay (winning 14) this year, so he has had a lot of match practice on clay, twice as much as Federer. Tommy Robredo (No. 18) is the highest ranked player he has played this year. What a beating! But Nalbie was lucky to get Robredo, and not Robin Soderling, who took him to 5 sets (won 9-7 in the fifth set) in Davis Cup on clay in Argentina recently. Nalbie lost in the first round of Miami two weeks ago.

Federer’s match against Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo was just another one of those Federer matches where Roger lost concentration in mid-match and got sloppy, but remained calm and turned on his turbo engines when he really needed to. Same thing happened against Pete Sampras in their Madison Square Garden exhibition – in the third set, Sampras suddenly won five games in a row to go up 5-2 but even the great Sampras serve could not overcome Federer’s fortitude in these situations. The Swiss eventually won in a close tiebreaker.

Djokovic has the easiest match, against Sam Querrey on clay. The Serb must be praying the Federer-Nalbie match to go the distance. Djokovic hates playing Nalbie and Federer on any surface. The Serb lost to Nalbie in Madrid. in order to beat Federer, the Serb needed the Swiss (a) to be sick with  mononucleosis and food poisoning in the Australian Open and (b) to commit 57 unforced errors in Montreal (Djokovic had to win two tiebreakers).

but i want david to win and i think its quite possible this time cos davis has a great game and he is mentally strong and not at all intimidated by federer.

infact nalbandian once said that he wins against fed cos he does not respect him like some biggie.

I'm picking Nalbandian to beat Federer. I feel that even though Roger is on a 7 match winning streak, he still hasn't found his form. Nalbandian is probably at his best on clay and looked very impressive in beating Robredo (6-1 6-0). Robredo is very good on clay and Nalbandian just outplayed him from start to finish.

Prediction: Nalbandian beats Federer in 3 sets.

I would go with Federer. Having won Estoril is a confidence booster for him. And he is a great champion I'm sure he will find a way to win. In his match against Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo he managed to rally from 2 points away from losing and won the match. Though it would be a very challenging match against David Nalbanian. I think I Nalbanian played really well crushing Tommy Robredo 6-1 6-0 in the third round. But Roger will win in three sets.

Nalbandian.  Federer has a hard time with the Argentine on hard court.  Clay is Nalbandian's speciality.  I'm pretty sure that if Federer is just a little off, it will be all Nalbandian.

Federer. Nalbandian will give him a test, though. I am not sure how Nalby is on clay, I think he's one of the few Argentinians who is better on hard court.
