Both men's and women's singles.

As a complementary question, in the future, will a win at the Olympics be given the same or greater stature than a grand slam event?

  1. For some reasons Americans usually do well in olympic tennis. I'm going way out on a limb and predict Roddick and Venus Williams.

For the complementary question, the olympic gold will only be valuable to those who win it. It will never be at the same level as a grandslam. It's just like soccer. Who ever boasts about their olympic soccer medal? But the world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. OR basketball. Put a gun to Michael Jordan's head and tell him to give up one of his NBA titles / gold medal or die. I'm willing to bet a lot of money he'll give up his olympic gold, even though he has 6 NBA titles. They are simply not the same. The same can be said of the superbowl or the major league. Tennis is one of those sports where an olympic medal is nice but not the pinnacle of one's career... unless of course one's career really sucked.

    *EDIT*

Remo: Agassi was just talking smith, which he was very prone to do in his younger days. He didn't mean that. Recently Sampras and Federer played an exhibition match in Macau. Here's an exerpt from the match report. I dare say Sampras is a wiser fellow than Agassi, and less politically correct than Federer.

Federer was asked repeatedly about his failure to win in Paris. When a Chinese reporter asked if he would prefer a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics or the French title next year, Federer said it was a tough call. But Sampras interjected, "I'd take the French."

Also in those days (of Borg and Connors), the Australian Open did not have the prominence that it does now. Players did not like the long commute to get down under. Some players skipped the French because they had very little chance of winning. I think Connors skipped the French because of some legal thing, can't remember exactly. Today, many players still skip Wimbledon. That's more an issue of convenience than prestige.

  2. Men's - Not US >.<

Females - Probably Venus, as she won Wimbledon

I believe less - otherwise Andy Roddick would be playing >.>

  3. I hope Spain will but they dont have a strong female lineup.  Serbia looks like they have a good chance.  Russia also looks strong.

  4. Federer & Serena Williams

  5. Rafael Nadal and Venus Williams.

  6. I hope Switzerland.  and I think a win at the Olympics should be given maybe a greater stature, b/c it is only 1 every 4 years.
