Who win the 100 meter butterfly? Phelps or Cavic?

Milorad Cavic of Serbia clearly had the race won with about 1 m left. But then he glided in and Phelps took a stroke to out-touch Cavic by 0.01 seconds. It was so close that you couldn’t tell from any of the underwater angles who had won. In fact, it appeared to me that Cavic may very well have touched the wall first.

  1. Okay already, that was 800 years ago.

Phelps clearly touched the pad before Cavic.

  2. You guys can keep saying Cavic won or whatever but one thing is that electric pads don't lie!!!! and lmao at cavic and his coach protesting on electric pads ahaha

  3. Cavic touched first, but not hard enough for the sensors to register.

  4. Phelps didn't win this race; Cavic lost it.  In the butterfly, if you are coming into the wall having just completed a stroke, you don't take another ("half) stroke.  You kick hard and lunge for the wall.  Cavic came in "short" (his last stroke left him too far from the wall, but too close to take another stroke) but watch the tape:  he didn't kick or lunge, he just glided in.  Phelps, on the other hand, did exactly what you are not supposed to do.  He came in "short" but instead of kicking and lunging, he took that extra half stroke.  Normally, that will cost you the race but because Cavic just kind of languidly glided into the wall, Phelps taking that extra half stroke actually allowed him to slam his hands into the wall just ahead of Cavic.  But Phelps himself admitted, when he took that extra half stroke, he thought it had cost him the first place.  Normally, it does.

  5. theres no mistake about it.... phelps won

  6. Cavic won. EVERYONE who saw it live in the arena knew that Cavic won. After the replays where shown on the big screen, Phelp's mother held up 2 fingers, Phelp's coach muttered "Cavic really beat him", and everyone in the arena knew that Cavic won. It's just like when Gore really beat Bush but still wasn't President. Only the frames from Omega(who is a Michael Phelps Sponsor) says that Phelps won.

Also, Phelps swam in the "OMEGA LANE". Who's to say the touchpads in that lane weren't rigged? Also, who's to say that the video Omega provied wasn't doctored? The underwater video that Omega showed is the most fishy. As on the over the head view on my High Definition DVR that was shown live, it's not even that close, Cavic seems to win by 0.05 seconds or so.

  7. Neil your an idiot...thanks for wasting my time.

Get Sports Illustrated from this week. It has the photo of Phelps's touching the senor pad and his fingers are bent back. If you look at Cavic his fingers are just barely touching the pad so you can see how he hit the finish second. His fault for lifting his head and gliding in while Phelps took a half stroke actually crashing into the wall.

Hey, Dara Torres lost by the same margin and we did not protest like Cavic and his coach did....!!!

EDIT: SAL your an idiot too....go back to your 9/11 conspiracy blogs - You must have a cheap HD DVR because mine works fine and I can see Phelps touching first.

  8. Michael Phelps won. There is absolutely no doubt about it. The timing system and the touch pad sensors don't lie. The high speed camera confirmed it too.

In the final 20 feet, Michael looked like a beaten swimmer. But his extra kicking strength powered him close enough to the exhausted Cavic that he touched the wall a hundredth of a second sooner. Replayed showed that, on the final stroke, Cavic had Michael beaten. But Cavic glided to the wall while Michael made one last desperate lunge.

The video tape was shown to Cavic and his coaches in frames of 1/1000 of a second. When the video tape was seen, Cavic admitted he lost and all the protests were dropped.

Michael Phelps totally won that race. It was a tight one tho.

  9. *I dont care what anyone says, cavic won that race...and im like the biggest phelps phan out there, and im too stubborn to believe that he won

  10. phelps will win
