  1. Each at their peak?  Leonard.  He's faster, more strategic, than the more powerful but slow moving Robinson.

  2. ITs an intriguing match and a closer one than some might think.  Robinson was indeed the best but no one is totally unbeatable.  He was probably the closest.  He's Leonard and Hearns all in one and then some.

Some people still think Leonard can't punch.  That's not true.  Robinson has the edge in POWER, CHIN and a slight edge in his ability to absorb BODY punishment overall.  He has survived  more toe-to-toe wars than Leonard has had fights.

No one can question Leonard's HEART.  Just look at the first Hearns fight, round 13.  If that doesn't convince you nothing will.  While you're at it, look at Robinson's second fight with Turpin.  They're about even in this category because few are on that level.  Leonard has a slight edge in hand speed while Robinson has better balance.

For only the second time (assuming Leonard has already fought Hearns) Leonard would be facing an opponent who can out jab him.

Robinson starts off fast and takes rounds 1 thru 3.  Leonard is forced to be the aggressor.  In round 4 he uses his slightly stronger legs to force the action on the inside.  He needs to nullify Robinson's power.  This works for the next 2 rounds until,  in round 6 Robinson lands an uppercut on the inside followed by a hook and two straight rights which backs Leonard to the ropes.

Robinson is back on the outside again.  He now knows he is facing an opponent who can match his speed and smother his power.  From the outside Robinson takes rounds 7 and 8 and nearly floors Leonard in round 9 with a-- jab-right-hook-hook--- combination.  Robinson has also been working the body while Leonard has been occupied with trying to take Robinson's jab away.  Round 10 also goes to Leonard.

In round 11 Leonard lands a hook to the jaw that sends Robinson to the ropes.  Leonard now opens with a multi-punch flurry but Robinson avoids many of them, blocking with his shoulders and landing a few of his own.  The round is spent mostly on the ropes with Leonard gaining a slight edge.

It has become clear that Robinson's body attack has taken a toll on Leonard's legs.  Now Robinson can control the pace from the outside where, in this fight, he works best.  Robinson takes rounds 12 and 13 using, primarily, his jab and foot work.  Leonard's left eye a bit is swollen but doesn't cause a great problem.  Robinson has a small cut above his left eye.

Leonard begins round 14 with a right which widens the cut above Robinson's eye.  The ref takes a look and Robinson knows he better make something happen.  If anyone can get to that cut its Leonard.  Robinson moves on the inside and lands a series of body shots.  Leonard is hurt for the first time as he fights off the ropes.

Robinson will not be denied.  A short right on the inside followed by a series of hooks to the body, using his shoulders to smother Leonard's return attack.  RIght to the jaw, hook--body--body--jaw--right.  Leonard goes down.

Wisely taking the 8 count Leonard now knows he must make something happen.  He boxes careful then finishes the round strong with a flurry.  Robinson is now beginning to tire.

Leonard finishes round 15 strong knowing he needs a KO to win.  Robinson doesn't let up.  The fight ends with both at ring center trading blows.

    Leonard:  "great fight, man"

    Robinson: "You've earned the name"

    Robinson by unanimous decision

  3. Ray Robinson vs. Ray Leonard is a no contest. Robinson had every attribute you want in a fighter,SPEED,power, heart, chin etc...

  4. Any true Boxing Fan knows that Sugar Ray Robinson would win.

  5. Sugar Ray Leonard has himself stated that there is no comparison between him and Sugar Ray Robinson.  Leonard stated this: "Someone once said that there was a comparison between me and Sugar Ray Robinson, believe me, there's no comparison- Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest."  Ray Leonard was the best of his era, but Ray Robinson was the best of all time- thats why Leonard borrowed the name "Sugar" from him...  The person above said that Robinson was "slow moving"- I'm not sure if she is thinking of the same fighter as me because the Robinson that I saw threw lightning fast combinations nonstop and even knocked someone out going backwards- thats how good he was offensively.  Defensively, he was also a mastermind; he is probably the first modern day practioner of the shoulder roll, and in his prime, he used it to perfection by rolling and slipping any combinations that were coming towards him.  If the two "Sugars" had ever fought, Leonard would hold his own and make it competitive, but Robinson would just be too much and too good for Leonard, and he would most likely win a unanimous decision.
