  1. this is mental ive seen about 6 people on here saying that in the last round enzo calzaghe was telling joe he needed to ko b-hop so b-hop must of been the winner. WHAT DO YOU LOT THINK HE IS GOING TO SAY TO HIS FIGHTER IN THE LAST ROUND ,just go out and take it easy or just chill its all good. no you idiots of course he is going to tell joe to ko him its a motivational speech. in what enzo thought was a close fight he never for a second thought that joe was losing

  2. Calzaghe won a split decision, it was close and could have gone the other way. Calzaghe's corner told him going into the last round that he needed a knockout so they thought he was losing. Joe fought Bernard's fight. In a split decision the loser is always going to moan. It was a messy fight but well done Joe on the win.

Dark Elmo - Enzo would not have asked Joe to go for a knockout and risk getting tagged if he didn't think he was behind. I watched the fight and it was clear that Joe's corner was worried. Well done to him on the win....but don't try to re-write what happened.

  3. joe won but i think b-hop got robed real bad

  4. Calzaghe - it went through all 12 rounds, Calzaghe got knocked down in 1st round, but won in the end with 2 judges

  5. You know it was the Welsh warrior. Did you really think that American fool would win it? laughable.

  6. Joe Calzaghe

  7. C'mon the welshman.  It was calzaghe by split points decision.

He got knocked down in the first round, but continued to battle his way through.

Hopkins expelled too much energy in the early stages of the fight but calzaghe maintained his stamina throughout.

  8. joe

  9. The Welsh guy one,,,despite being knocked down in the first round!!

  10. Joe....

  11. Joe Calzaghe won. And he didnt get knocked down he lost his footing, his feet were too close for him to move. any one would of slipped if their feet where that close and they were tryinng to get back

  12. Joe Calzaghe won on a split decision (116-111, 115-112, 113-114).

Hopkins fought a defensive fight allowing Calzaghe to come at him, then tie him up with clinches and his head while picking him off with counters. It was quite effective (Hopkins dropped Joe in the first round) at first before Calzaghe adapted his style and fought more defensive himself. While this did not make such a great fight, it brought results with Joe dominating the second half of the fight. Hopkins twice complained about low blows, although the second time the ref didn't believe him. The referee was quite lenient - despite warning both fighters he didn't deduct any points and allowed a lot of the rough stuff to go on - perhaps because he got so much criticism for the Mayweather-Hatton fight.

Personally I thought Hopkins had narrowly won - so was pleased to see Joe make it. American judges prefer the head-on style that Joe displayed but I did worry about a hometown decision.
