Sydney's Adam Goodes won the 2006 Brownlow Medal on Monday night of September 25, as the 12th player to have earned the honour more than once and the first to do so from a club based outside of Victoria.

Goodes finished with 26 votes, three clear of the Western Bulldogs' Scott West while West Coast captain Chris Judd was third on 21.

It is the second occasion Goodes has won the AFL's highest individual honour, having shared the medal with Adelaide's Mark Ricciuto and Collingwood's Nathan Buckley in 2003.
