The winner of that first event, which took place in November 2005 at the Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, was England's David Howell, who beat Tiger Woods by three strokes. Howell briefly troubled the world ranking top ten in 2006, but his career has gone off the boil a little since then, his last win coming at the BMW Championship in 2006.
