Who would I contact regarding collecting pention from ex-husbnd working for a town school?

married over 10 years, he was retired less than a year.

please, need information on who to contact.

  1. If you were not set up for survivor benefits when he arranged for his pension payout you might not be eligible.

    Sorry.

    I am getting ready to retire in a few years and I know a woman who got nothing but money from a work supplied life insurance policy because her husband never applied for his retirement provisions at the time of his sudden death.

    A stupid paperwork s***w up.

    This guy had over 35 years in on the job.

    Its not right but it opened a lot of eyes around my company.


  2. If you are an ex-spouse, you probably have no claim to his pension.  During divorce proceedings, pensions (at least in Pennsylvania) are treated as marital property subject to "equitable distribution of marital property."

    If your ex-husband is deceased, any pension he has will go to his named beneficiary or by default to his estate.  Contact the human resources department of the school district to find out for sure.

    When it comes time to collect Social Security, you have the option of going on your ex-spouse's earnings or your own, whichever are greater. Not on both.
