Question:

Who would I look to to help fund my salt cedar removal plan?

I am a non student who is just worried about the lack of water for our livestocks and even our own drinking water on the Navajo Reservation. Our water holes are depleted due to salt cedar and our windmills are not reliable because of breakdowns. We have a lot of animals in our area who are just dehydrated and you can see their ribs. Most families in our area don't have money to pay for water or do not have the vehicles to transport water for their livestocks. It is sad to see animals like this and I would like to help remove salt cedar so our water holes will start filling back up. I have tried to get grants from the gov. and like I said I'm not a student nor environmental specialist so they blow me off. I'm hoping I could get help from somewhere so I can prove to the government that an uneducated native american can do this not just for me but our livestocks. Thank you and serious answers only.

its http://www. then the initials of fish, wildlife, services, FWS but in lower case, then .gov and follow grants or look on the front page, there is a native american liason project.

    try a google search with

I will do some more research on this

I am thinking you live in New Mexico, you do not say.  Here is an article on some of the government agency's working on the problem; maybe one of them could help fund the removal.

Also, have you looked into contacting some of the more prosperous tribes around the county, they might be able to assist in funding a grant.
