Who would benefit and who would be harmed by same-s*x "marriage"?

By introducing non-mating relationships into legal marriage, recognizing same-s*x "marriage" redefines marriage as "any permanent relationship." Using a cost-benefits analysis, what sort of benefits would we gain (if any) and what costs would we incur (if any)?

  1. Sexual liberals would benefit by improving their self-esteem.  Of course, self-esteem is transitory; the reality that same-s*x couples are practicing sexual immorality in the name of marriage will not change, and unless they figure out a way to repeal the First Amendment, they will get constant reminders that they are not really married, but rather living a life of sin.

Children would be harmed by redefining marriage to mean any permanent relationship.  This dramatically degrades marriage, which is an institution already under fire; in the US, illegitimate births are already 30% and climbing.  Marriage takes great sacrifices, and fewer mating couples will make such sacrifices when marriage is put on par with same-s*x coupling.

This means that many more children will be raised by single parents, mostly single mothers. Children raised by single parents are poorer, less healthy, lower in school achievement, have more conflicts, are more likely to get in trouble with the law, and are less likely to establish a satisfying and stable marriage relationship later in life.
