Who would get custody if?

If a couple in a long distance relationship gets pregnant... who decides who gets custody? Both are age 21... Also if the mother decides she wants to give up the kid for adoption but the father doesn't how does that work? Thanks

i think that, if a woman wants an abortion, she has the right because it's her body.

The mother cannot give up the baby without the dads consent. If she does not want the baby she can give it up to him. If they both want custody the courts will have to decide.

in most cases the woman would get custody. Its rare that a child be taken from the mothers care unless there's good reason or she gives it up. Your age has nothing to do with it. A court will decide who gets custody. You will need to get yourself a family lawyer to discuss your case. I don't know exactly how adoption works but there are laws so look into it and exercise your rights as a biological parent before its too late.

Mother would most likely get the child with father having visitation rights, unless mother is deemed unfit, then father may be able to raise child. If father is listed on birth certificate, court must notify father before adoption can go thru. this notification can just be an advertisement in the classified section of the last known city father has lived in. Even if child is adopted and father found out years later there are still legal issues and children have been given to the unknowing parent. best advice to father is if you really want to be in the child's life don't give up, not even in your darkest hours, as long as you fight you have a chance of seeing the child raised, and if that doesn't happen than when the child is old enough to look for you, he or she will know just how much you wanted to be in their life.

The court decides who gets custody depending upon what is best for the child.  If the mother wants to put the child up for adoption that is her choice however the father can take her to court to stop the adoption.  Some have succeeded some have not.  The couple should have thought about this happening BEFORE they jumped into bed together and made a baby.
