  1. Dempsey is a smarter fighter than Tyson

  2. First off, they fought during totally different boxing eras. During Dempsey's period, if you got knocked down, the other fighter could wait at your feet as you got up. During Dempsey's period they fought for far more rounds.

Regardless, it's too hard to compare. Everyone can speculate but you simply have to fight the fights to really know what happens.

  3. Dont ever compare athletes of the 40's with athletes of the 90's, that goes for any sport, athletes now days are stronger bigger faster and more skillfull, ask any real coach or trainer, Mike Tyson will completely devastad Dempsey

  4. dempsey, he had more control, patience and paced himself better.

  5. dempsey, tyson has no brains, he only knew how to punch.

  6. Dempsey

  7. Not only would Tyson have won, but Boxing has evolved to the point where Monte Barrett would have beaten Dempsey had both met in their primes.  Just the way it is.

The question should be more along the lines of which boxer had a greater impact or was more dominant in his era, and between Dempsey and Tyson that is a tough call, but I'd say Tyson was more dominant, and Dempsey had a greater impact.

  8. I think it's Tyson, no contest.  As best as I can possibly even the playing field, and the rules, I still can't see Dempsey winning.  A LOT would have to be done to bring things closer to even.   If you could possibly take both "AS IS"  Tyson wins before round 2 is over.  Dempsey can punch but his power is a bit overrated by the aide of the rules of the time, particularly the absence of an 8 count.  Tyson has one of the best chins in boxing history.

To make some things even there would have to be an 8 count rule.  I would go with the rules of today for both fighters.  Dempsey would be his natrual size but train and live as fighters do today.  That would make him just a little bigger

    Tyson..........5'10.5,  217lbs

    Dempsey....6'1'',  202lbs

I could see Dempsey realistically putting on a few pounds of muscle and still be Dempsey.  Any heavier, he becomes a punching bag.  Any lighter he gets blown away, probably suffering a career ending injury.

Round 1: both meet at ring center.  Tyson immediately takes the offensive with a wild right that grazes Dempsey's head.  Dempsey answers with a hard right to the jaw of the wide open Tyson.  Tyson fires back with a combination to the body, body, body, right to head.  Both trade heavy blows at ring center but Tyson forces Dempsey back to the ropes.

Dempsey fires back, left-hook, right, left-hook, backs Tyson on his heels for a second.  Dempsey lands a hard right to the mouth and draws blood.  Tyson is only shaken for a moment, lands a hard right to the rib cage.  Dempsey holds for a few seconds.  Tyson fires 2 uppercuts inside but neither land flush.  Still it's enough to cause Dempsey to hold again.  Bell.

Round 2:  Clearly hurt the last round, Dempsey tries to take Tyson out quickly.  A hard right to the face draws blood again from Tyson's mouth.  Tyson misses with an over-hand straight right but steps in with a left to the jaw.  Dempsey steps back and Tyson lands another left.  Dempsey goes down!.    He's up at 4 and Tyson advances again.  This time the wild right doesn't miss and Dempsey is clearly hurt.  He fires back and both trade bombs again at ring center.

Tyson clinches and forces Dempsey to the ropes.  Dempsey lands a right inside to the side of the face.  Tyson crowds Dempsey and, this time the uppercut lands flush.  Dempsey staggers along the ropes.  Tyson rains a very quick 5 punch combination.  Dempsey is down again.  He staggers up and the ref allows it to continue but Jack is clearly hurt.

Tyson steps in and lands a straight right to the face.  The punch is short and with full power.  Dempsey falls back, his head striking the canvas.   He will Not beat the count.

    Tyson by KO in 2

  9. Before I answer this question i want you to think of two things, both dempsey and tyson were aggressive in fighters, both of them used low stances....and the similarities END THERE. Tyson was faster, stronger, much more accurate, definetely better at bobbing and weaving and equally tough (in his prime) how then could anyone expect dempsey who was smaller, slower and much less accurate than tyson,to beat Tyson at his own game?? How many fighters have been foolish enough to try such tactic and survived?? It's simple logic

This is really an easy question to answer, everyday i see people speculate about contemporary fighters like diaz and pacquaio, i see people compare styles and watch videos and then make up an opinion but for some reason when it comes to fighters of old, logic goes out the window, it does not take a genius to see who would have won, youtube is one click away and when one watches videos of both fighters it is pretty easy to tell who would have won if they had met, tyson was faster, more accurate and in overall better condition than dempsey and probably stronger too, Dempsey had to come back from behind to beat guys like Firpo, someone that Tyson would have knocked out in the first round, when you watch their styles and their physical attributes it becomes obvious that if they had met in the ring Tyson would have won, i give dempsey credit and i think his contributions to boxing are invaluable but people need to put things into perspective here, Dempsey boxed in a time when boxing was still a young and evolving sport, while Tyson is the perfect example of a modern boxer, I admire jack as much as the next guy but i am realistic.

  10. Jack Dempsey

  11. mike tyson vs. jack dempsey?------ in their prime, i think its mike tyson who will win because of his very strong hands.. jack dempsey is taller between the two, but its mike who will prevail.
