Lennox Lewis scored a second round stoppage over Riddick Bowe in the 88 Olympics. Four years later an elimination tournament took place in the fall of 92. Then heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield Riddick Bowe Lennox Lewis and Razor Ruddock all signed a contract. The contract stated that the winner of Ruddock vs Lewis would be given the legal right to face the winner of Holyfield vs Bowe. The WBC said it would enforce this contract and that all parties involved must abide by it. On Halloween night 1992 in London the first fight of the competition took place. Lennox Lewis scored a spectacular second round knockout over Razor Ruddock in what was at that time considered a major upset. Two weeks later on Friday the 13th of November Riddick Bowe defeated Evander Holyfield in what was called the Heavyweight Fight of the Decade! The WBC gave Bowe 30 days to arrange a fight. BOTH fighters badly wanted to fight. Bowe's manager Rock Newman however had other ideas. The WBC then stripped Bowe.

  1. Lewis by a knockout. He hit much harder and moved much better than Bowe. Lennox was also a much smarter fighter.

On a side note I think its so funny when the idiots chide Lewis for having a weak jaw. The two knockouts he suffered were perfect power punches that would have knocked anyone out except maybe David Tua. Go to Youtube and pull up the video about Lennox Lewis stron jaw and you will see that he was able to withstand good shots.

Did Tyson have a glass jaw too because Buster Douglas knocked him out? Rahman and McCall were way better punchers than Douglas.

  2. Cold runner must be a d**n fool. Who would want to see this bull anyway. Lewis was weak and Bowe was worse. Lenox 'GLASS JAW' lewis aint ****.

  3. Riddick "BIG DADDY" Bowe had the heart of a Champion and knew how to go to war and come out the VICTOR!....................................

Bowe also had excellent boxing ability for a big man!...............

Lewis had a terrific jab, but so did Bowe, the difference here is one guy can go to war- Bowe.......................................

The other- Lewis- was never in a war because he was always destroyed when the bombs hit!.................................

Riddick by 10th round ko! maybe sooner!

  4. lewis would have won, probably by late stoppage.

  5. It doesn't really matter what I think . What Bowe thought is what truly matters, and he was scared .....

  6. I have always maintained the belief that Bowe was afraid of Lewis.  He was the typical trash talking "Brooklynite".  Like Judah and Tyson,  Bowe seems to think that simply coming from NYC makes you automatically tough and others should fear you.

I've been around the type all my life.  I know when a man is afraid, especially one who ASSUMES he involks fear in someone else.  Bowe listened to all that trash his 'homeboys' talked about Lewis not being tough because of his accent and the fact that he doesn't go around talking trash.

Look at Bowe right after the First Holyfield fight.   He didnt look or sound so brave than.   Usually a fighter who just won the title is pumped up and ready to take on all comers.   Lewis confronted Bowe and, although Bowe did talk some trash he used the same lame *** excuse Tyson used before the first Holyfield fight.  "He knows what he said.......bla.....bla"   "He said this, he said that".......SO WHAT!?........STOP TALKING and sign the contract.  THAT is all Lewis was interested in.

Bowe wanted NO part of it and his manager was smart enough to know that Lewis was MUCH too dangerous for Bowe.   Look at both men fight.   Bowe takes a better punch and has a slightly faster jab.    However, he's not so fast that he could stop Lennox from taking the fight on the inside.

Bowe didnt take it to the body as well as Lewis could.  He also didnt fight as well on the inside.  For a big guy Bowe was good on the inside.    Lennox is simply a LOT deadlier.   It's right where he would want Bowe.

People often make the mistake of thinking Lennox isn't a "tough guy"  because he doesn't talk a lot of trash.  He's usually very reserved.    Lewis can be very violent and mean in the ring when he needs to.   If he has any weaknesses its the lack of a killer instinct.  But he can and would be pushed by a street punk like Bowe.   Lewis may not ACT like a street thug but he knows how to deal with them.

Lewis knew when to lay back and when to ''step it up''.  People often criticize him for the only two mistakes he has made in his career.   They dont point out the fact that he corrected each mistake.   He's a nice guy out of the ring but Lewis is a monster in the ring when he's provoked.   Bowe would be the perfect motivation because the two never liked each other.

Lewis takes the fight inside early in round 2.   Bowe is unable to keep Lewis off and fights back bravely.   It is his undoing.  Lennox hurts Bowe just before the end of round 2.    In round 3 an inside uppercut straightens Bowe up.  Bowe is in trouble and attempts to clinch as Lewis slams home 2  clubbing rights.   Bowe falls to one knee.   He's up at 6 and ready to continue.  Bowe makes it to the bell.

Bowe is attempting to box carefully but Lewis won't allow him any room.  Bowe has no choice but to fight back.  He's brave but Lewis' clear edge in strength is beginning to show as he has his way on the inside.  He forces Bowe to the ropes where he can do the most damage.

Lennox turns it into a street fight because he knows it's his best advantage.  By round 5 Bowe is beginning to slow down.  A surprisingly fast left uppercut and right cross puts him on the mat again.  Bowe rises and carefully makes it out of round 5.

Round 6 is a defensive round for Bowe.  Lewis also takes the round off.  Its a jabbing contest with Bowe getting the better of the exchange.   In round 7 its more of the same until Bowe lands a solid right to the top of the head.   Lennox now wakes up and fires his own bombs.

Lewis crowds Bowe and lands a short right to the side of the head.   Bowe backs off but is caught by a right on the way out.  He falls to the canvas again.  He's up again but in serious trouble.  Lewis moves in for the kill, throwing lots of punchs.  Half of them miss but one solid right lands and Bowe is once again helpless as Lewis continues the assult and the referee steps in.

    Lewis by KO in 7

  7. Lewis would have thrashed him!  He's British.  Outside of Cuba, The UK has the best fighters!
