Who would rather have in their heyday-Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemeiux?

I'd take a healthy Lemieux anyday.

This is an old question that has only one answer.

Wayne Gretzky was by far the greatest athlete of his sport.

His records speak for themselves.

There will be good players like Mario, Crosby, Jagr and many others, but there will never be anyone who will break half of Gretzky's records.

Wayne, had the ability to do just about anything to any team!

He made superstars of more players!

The entire hockey world said he couldn't make it!

Rules were changed because of him!

When Mario or someone else breaks all of Wayne's records I will humbly recant but for now, no one will ever match the great one!

Gretzky. One of the things that made him so great was his ability to be an ambassador for the game. Mario shyed away from the media for most of his career, which would have made life difficult for him in Toronto, and probably would have had a negative impact on his game.

Mario Lemieux. I perfer him over Gretzky.

Gretzky is a great player but the answer is Mario.  If Mario Lemieux were healthy his whole career then most of the records gretzky has would be Mario's.  Remember Mario for his career has in averaged 2 points a game, Gretzky did not.

Lemieux for sure.  Gretzky is no doubt the better OVERALL player.  Lemieux had a lot of medical issues.  Imagine if Lemieux was healthy his entire career - He would've totally given Gretzky a run for his money.  So at the peak of his career, I'm going to Lemieux.  Overall though, it would totally be Gretzky.

Gretzky on the Leafs would have been awesome! But having Mario on the Leafs would have been great too.

Having either one in Toronto would have been great but if I had to pick I say Wayne Gretzky. But having either would work for me!

They were both great players, but different styles. Mario was big and physical, Wayne more finesse. If I had to choose I would pick Wayne because he had the scoring touch.

Depends on which team. I think Lemiuex could carry a team better than Gretzky but with one or two good players already on the team I would have to say Gretzky because he is great with a couple of scorers

As a Canadiens fan, throughout history we have been blessed to have Maurice Richard in his heyday, Jean Beliveau in his hayday, Guy Lafleur in his heyday, the list goes on and on. But it's 333am so I will leave you with that in your thoughts.
