If St. Pierre went up to Middleweight and was in prime condition who would win this battle? I would even love to see BJ Penn vs Georges St. Pierre both in their prime. Any thoughts?

  1. St. Pierre

  2. I really dont know, I would like to see GSP v Anderson Silva more than any other fight in MMA though. Silva would have the definate striking edge, but GSP is an insane wreslter as far as MMA is concerned, I would say they have comprable BJJ skill. Silva is the bigger fighter but GSP is a huge 170 and has freakish strengh so I wouldnt say Silva has  big sive advantage.

Silva's takedown defense is probably his weakest point, Silva is good on the ground but if you let Travis Lutter get ontop of you, your takedown defense isnt great. Rumor had it that when GSP was training with Greg Jackson he had no trouble taking down much bigger guys who were good wrestlers, Rashad Evans specifically. I think GSP would be able to get Silva down and pound on him, probably not sub him but pound his way to a win.

Looking at it the other way, I think GSP's biggest weakness is his chin, and we all know what Silva can do to people with questionable chins, (Rich Franklin). So I really dont know what would happen in this fight.

  3. i think GEOGES ST. PIERRE

  4. As much as I love GSP, I would have to go for Anderson Silva. GSP is an excellent striker but just not up to par compared to Anderson's. Although GSP is probably the most complete fighter, his forte is his ground and pound along with his takedown defense. Silva is a legit black belt in BJJ, and we have seen him submit from his back. So we have to see GSP be very careful in that gameplan. Also, GSP loves takedowns while Anderson loves knees. GSP needs to be very careful when going in for a takedown to avoid Anderson's deadly knees.

Although these two have excellent ground games, I just don't see this fight going to the ground. The reason I don't see GSP winning is because of the standup. Anderson has the definitive reach advantage. GSP will have to find a way to strike on the inside perhaps utilize dirty boxing, right? Wrong. Anderson's clinch is one of the deadliest in the MMA world today, only to be argued with the knee expert Wanderlei Silva.

Georges St. Pierre is probably the second best fighter in the UFC, it just so happends that the best is Anderson Silva.

  5. thats a tough fight to call.  I see gsp taking silva down but not being able to ground and pound.  If its a 5 round fight I see anderson catching gsp with strikes and finishing him , if its a 3 round fight i think it would be gsp.

  6. Georges St. Pierre

  7. that would be a good fight but i think st. pierre would win.  his wrestling skills are just outstanding and while silva isnt a pushover by any means i think st pierre can get him to the ground eventually and beat.  maybe even stand up wise he could beat him.  but of silva is a great striker too and could catch st pierre and drop him at any time.  but im just going to stick with st pierre on this one

  8. I see GSP defeating Penn as long as that fight is at welterweight where Penn has cardio problems. St. Pierre versus Silva at Middleweight would be harder to pick because St. Pierre has a;ways fought at welterweight. If GSP can takedown Silva he has a good chance but striking is definately Silva's advantage.

  9. I would say GSP.. That kid is wicked talented.. I wouldn't underestimate Anderson.. It will be an awesome fight...

We will see how good Anderson is when he fights the Sand-man this weekend on Spike tv!!

  10. I would have to say Anderson Silva, he is just on fire right now, not that GSP isn't but GSP has changed his game alot since his knockout at the hands of Serra to the point he is afraid to stand with someone anymore.  Here is a point remember GSP second fight with Matt Hughes he tooled him on the stand up with little to any effort then in his third fight he decided to take the hard road and try and wrestle him instead that COULD have been disaterous for him considering that is usually Matt game but Serra has changed him for the good and the bad.  Then we have Silva probably the best technical striker in the sport with precision out the yin-yang and unlike his physic shows he is very strong and very big for a middleweight he basically man handled Rich Franklin in both of their fights and before that Franklin was reknowed for his strength.  We know Silva is a better striker and probably better on the ground as well he has a Black belt in BJJ under the Nogueiras which is a highly legit black belt they don't hand them out easy.  As athletic as GSP is I think he is out classed here by a bigger, strong, faster, and experienced fighter.

Also I believe BJ would beat GSP also just like he should have the first time they fought GSP did not effect BJ one time in their fight and two take downs in the last round and doing absolutly nothing with those take downs when you get them should not get you a victory over someone who has pummelled the other fighters face into oblivion the rest of the fight.  BJ made GSP look foolish in that fight, I don't know what the judges were looking at.  BJ was also tooling Matt in their fight to until he broke his rib.

Penn does not have cardio problems he stood with GSP for all three rounds and GSP didn't have an answer for it and was stuff on all his take downs except for the last round and GSP couldn't do anything to Penn once he got him there and BJ just kept getting up GSP couldn't even keep BJ down at the end of the fight.

  11. This is a tough one..

GSP is a tough customer but he has shown that he can be knocked out, and since he hasn't faced anyone of Anderson Silva's striking capability, I would have to lean in favor of the Spider. But GSP is good at strategy and could perhaps use his wrestling ability to keep it on the ground... unfortunately Silva damages people whether standing, on the ground, or on his back.

I think if Matt Serra was able to catch GSP, it would be a matter of time before Silva did.

(Btw BJ Penn and St. Pierre fought, both in their prime they are still in their prime, it was a great fight and split decision win for GSP, though I think GSP is better now then he was when he fought BJ)

  12. Georges St. Pierre would beat both of them
