Many people dont like Lewis because he's from England, thats how we are in USA, but Lewis is one of the best heavyweights ever, Lewis can also beat prime Ali, dont ever athletes (not just boxers) from the 50's to boxers of the 90's, athletes now are more powefull, fast and skillfull, ask any real coach or trainer he'll say the same thing

I would bet on Sonny.

Lewis had a good jab and a strong left hook.  Sonny had a better jab and power in both hands.  Sonny was a very good defensive fighter.  Lennos's defense was to keep his distance.  Sonny also had a granite chin, which Lennox did not.  And Sonny had the reach advantage -- he had very long arms.  Sonny could go to the body, which Lennox did not do well.  Sonny had better stamina and was a great aggressor.

Lennox was a very good fighter.  Sonny was a great fighter.  People remember Sonny from his two Ali fights that were towards the end of his career.  Before that he was regarded as unbeatable.  No one ever said that about Lennox.

I agree with Scott's comments. There's no way at all that Lewis' chin could cope with Liston's jab. Even with Lewis keeping his range and relying on his jab, Liston had an unusally large reach for his size and far too much power for Lewis. I'm not taking anything away from Lewis, as I regard him as a great fighter, but Liston is always under-rated and I feel that in his prime, he would actually win this fight quite comfortably by knockout.

liston. he was from an era of three times the number of competing heavyweights.

lewis was a fighter from a decade which had slumped badly after the 1980's. full of guys who could not even conquer a fat old guy from the 1970's- george foreman.

regardless how good a champ looks to you in his own decade if it only has  1/3 the competition pool it is very unilkely he will anywhere near the top ranks against the best from three times bigger competition.

No different from comparing the UK to the USA in the olympics say.

they both send the same athletes, doing the same thing, in the same sports, with the same level of living and health.

But what happens?

the bigger pools champions smash the 1/3 pools guys in almost every field.

in the same way our big slow heavyweights should not be compared with anyone before 1990, they would be killed.
