It all depends on what writer is making the fight.

The hulk has been referred to as the most physically powerful beings on earth, and many other worlds. In fact if somehow venom started off as strong as the hulk in a fight, the hulk would become stronger as the fight progressed.

Not only does he have immense strength, but he also has an insanely powerful healing factor. better than even wolverine's.

Because of this he is pretty much immune to poisons, parasites and other biological attacks. Heck, the hulk has come back from having his neck broken!

Venom, as powerful as he might be, is in a league FAR below the hulk. Venom could not possibly cause enough harm before the hulk;s healing factor repaired him.

Now some people might argue that venom could turn the hulk into a host, but as has been shown in the past, wolverine is basically immune to it, and a beast like hulk would he even more resilient to being taken over.

AGAIN however, all of this is moot if a writer comes along and decides to write otherwise.

Generally in a "cage match," Hulk wins.  Unless the writers want Hulk to loose which is not uncommon, they'd just have Venom pull of some slick trap of some kind.

Physically there's no way Venom could stand up to Hulk.  It really wouldn't be that different than spiderman vs Hulk.  Spidey would be the fan favorite and fans would be rooting for him since he's the underdog but he really can't beat the hulk.
