  1. It depends who had the purest heart....

OK, seriously - You cannot answer that with any degree of fact, as so many variants would affect the outcome.

Has the Black Belt been in many 'real fights'? What style? Where is the fight taking place? etc...

I would definitely put my money on the Marine, as they are trained to fight for REAL, rather than as a sport.

    Who knows, though?

  2. depends on who's wearing a cup, a kick in the nut and bring any tough man to his knees...well unless they're a unic

  3. marine

  4. could depend on the style of the black belt but marines are trained in mma as well as other forms of martial arts

  5. I disagree with you, Revan.  Martial Artists kill with their art, and Marines kill with their orders.  But martial arts are the arts of killing.

It depends -- are they a black belt of shotokan karate?  Or Wushu?  Are they a third degree black belt because they memorized the katas?  Because their Sensei took them on as their protoge and trained them for fifteen years?  Because they say so?

Has the marine been a marine for a day?  A week?  Twenty years?  Have they ever even seen combat? Fighting is chance, and training only tips the odds in your favor. Height and weight mean nothing if you don't know how to use them, or if your opponent knows how to use yours against you.

You need to spend more time training (if you even practice).  Don't think, do.

Instead of asking random strangers with egos rhetorical questions, meditate on it yourself, and do research, and you'll find the only answer that's actually valuable: Your own.

  6. depends on strength and knowledge.. they most likely have different techniques

  7. This is where you messed up. You're the 3rd degree, I'm the jar head. We can be the same height and weight but in a confrontation, you have your gi, I have my full combat gear. I'll just MP5 you and send your remains home.

  8. I have worked with a lot of Marines that were poons.  Don't get me wrong I loved my Marines but some of them are poons.  I did everything they did, except I carried 20 extra pounds of medical gear with me, and I am not especially tough.

  9. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE MARINE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY WOULD BE A TRAINED KILLER.  THE MARTIAL ARTIST IS TRAINED IN AN SELF DEFANSE ART.

  10. If the black belt trained in the U.S., probably the Marine.  If the black belt trained anywhere in Europe, or in Okinawa, probably the black belt.  Easily in fact.

    peace.

  11. The Marine!

He/She would shoot the black belt dead in less than 1 second.

  12. Interesting

Like anybody, I would say it depends on the person. Depends on Experience, Fight Smartness, and state of Mind & Body.

But looking at the statistics of experience. The Marine definately wins, the Marine is trained a million times to perform fight techniques and has mastered basics of simple, effective, and efficient techniques. They are trained to kill, but if they are controlled, they can do a lot of damage. They can take serious hits too. The average martial artist in the US, especially from what I've seen, the 3rd degree dont mean squat, but there are others who train very hard and can stand a good chance.

On Fight Smartness, the Marine utilizes simple, effecient, and very effective techniques. Since they've been in most fights, knowing each of their own selves strength and weaknesses, they know wat to do and wat not to do. A martial artist usually trains in traditional styles meaning that they will most likely do techniques that worked centuries ago and are not practical anymore (im not saying ALL of them). But there are some whom I've met who actually can think and ANALYZE their opponents and decide the best move to execute without thinking too much on it. There are those who are MMA combatents (I dont meant UFC people).

Lastly, state of mind and body. A Marine has a STRONG DURABLE body due to the grueling training that is SOO hard that attempting to survive a day will make you puke your guts out. The Marine has a strong mind too in regards of pain. A true Martial Artist has mastered virtues and mental attributes such as extreme focus, maturity, peace of mind, etc.

I'm not saying that this applies to EVERYONE, I've met Marines who dont know squat about fighting spirit nor they seem to be champions, so with that said, it randomizes. Also, I've seen Martial Artists who have different training routines and from what they know, they can kill and know what they are doing. But it could ALL be the exact opposite. But playing it the most common, our US Marine would win a fight, that's why they protect us and deserve our prayers. But with out picking out concepts from the martial arts around the world, they wouldn't be so great at what they do. A true warrior never counts on a weapon to save his life, cause he/she wasn't born with it, they rely on 'what' they were born with.

  13. yes marines are trained to kill but they spend a lot of time on weapons aswell they would do a lot less training hand to hand. and some martial arts you get taught to kill. it depends on the style of martial arts how long and how hard they have both been training. also if the marince can use weapons but im guessing you mean they cant if they both got to use blades the blackbelt in a sword martial art would distroy the marine but if they used guns the marine would distroy the blackbelt.

  14. i would have to say the 3rd degree black belt. they have been training since they were little a marine has to be a certain age

  15. Sorry to the black belt, but the marine would win. Black belts are trained to fight, but marines are trained to kill.

  16. Whoever is the better fighter or the one that can capitalize on the other fighter mistake.

Being a marine doesn't necessarily make you a fighter. Just like every black belt is a fighter.

A marine training consist of basic training that last for a few weeks. But a martial artist training last for a life time. A marine a  few week of hand to hand combat. This is when they learn some very effective martial arts techniques. A martial artist learns many effective techniques of the years. He may never use all of them in combat. It is likely that he or she will only use a few in a fight. It doesn't take a hundred techniques to win a fight.

There are many variables that can determine the outcome of this fight. Are there weapons being used? If so, what weapons? If the marine has a gun, he wins. If he has a knife in most cases he wins. Many martial artist don't learn how to defend against a knife attack from someone trained in how to use a knife. Again there are exceptions to that rule. Yes some are trained in how to take a knife from the average citizen. But taking a knife from someone who was in special forces would be a different story. They would have had specialized training in using a knife.

  17. Well it depends on what martial art the black belt has trained in. If it was a TKD black belt against a marine, the marine would probably win because they are trained in several martial arts (MCMAP) and are trained with a "kill or be killed" mentality. The TKD fighter wouldn't be able to trade punches or fight on the ground.

If you took a 3rd degree Krav Maga black belt who'd been training for over a dozen years in close quarters hand to hand combat, he would beat the average marine 99/100 times.

Another thing to consider is that the marines don't spend nearly as much time in H2H combat as martial artists do, so in the end, its kind of up in the air.

Being a good soldier is different from being a good fighter.

  18. assuming you mean hand to hand

what art is the black belt in? not all martial arts are the same in terms of their applicabiltiy to actual combat situations

and what type of marine?  there are three classes of marines, each with different levels of focus on combat skills, depending on their function

would a 3rd degree black belt in krav maga beat a helicopter mechanic? most likely yes

would a class three marine with a ton of real combat experience beat a 3rd degree tae kwon do black belt who's never been outside of the dojo? probably yes

the advantage of the marine is their focus on the psychological and emotional aspects of combat, the "mental toughness", whereas the advantage of the martial artist is the amount of time they have spent focused on application of technique

so the question may be does the marine have enough technical skill to survive long enough to take advantage of his toughness? or, conversely, does the martial artist have enough toughness to survive long enough to allow him to employ his skill?

    hard to say
