  1. This if it happens will be a real interesting fight. Some people rave about how good Jones Jr. looked against a pudgeball in Trinidad and I felt it was a very uneventful fight even with the knockdowns.

Calzaghe looked very amateurish against Hopkins. Either because of Bhops style or his own, and threw wild punches and pitty pat shots.

Both have a punchers chance everyone counts Jones out because of the kayo's to Tarver and Johnson. All of a sudden he was a bum in peoples eyes. But in boxing ANYONE can be knocked out at any time.

Calzaghe was dropped by a short counter right which didn't seem to have much behind it. And I wasn't impressed with the flurries, yes they looked flashy but unlike Jones Jr. who does the same thing, there was no sweat coming off of Hopkins or even a cut or puffy eye. Jones connects with flurries and u can feel them at home.

But Calzaghe has done what Jones hasn't. Good or bad, old or young he has beaten everyone he has ever fought.

I would go with Calzaghe by split decision, but in the crazy game of boxing u never know.

  2. Calzaghe would beat Roy Jones Junior.

You can't say a prime roy jones junior would beat a prime Joe Calzaghe as you will never know it only takes one punch to win a fight.  And as we know a prime RJJ would not travel to europe when pound for pound number 1 so we will never know.

Calzaghe has beaten every quality opponent put in front of him. And people should recognise his talent as one of the best fighters this country has ever produced and appreciate him while he is still around! a true LEGEND!

  3. Calzaghe didn't look good last night.  Part of it was Hopkins' style; part of it was Calzaghe's pitty-pat punches.

The key is which Jones shows up.  One thing's for sure -- he's not going to stand there to be hit the way Hopkins does.  Bernard is there to be hit, but it's hard to hit him and he's a good counter-puncher.  Roy is also a good counter-puncher and he moves well, so it's hard to get close enough to hit him, particularly with flurries. He hits harder than Joe does.

In a well-paced fight, with Jones conserving energy for a long fight, Roy would probably dominate the first half of the fight.  Then fatigue would slow him down and Calzaghe would take over.  Winning the last part of the fight, and being at home, Joe would probably win a close decision.  That would probably result in a rematch.  Both guys could then retire with full pockets.

I don't fault Joe for not coming to America years ago to fight Roy, at least not any more than I fault Roy for avoiding the best fighters around.  Besides, why would Joe have wanted to move up in weight to fight a prime Roy -- and why would Roy have wanted to drop down in weight to fight a primte Joe?  Now Joe is at the tail end of his career and Roy is in the twilight of his.  It will be interesting to see what happens if these two meet.

It sure looked like Hopkins was acting when he took time off after that low blow.  I think Cortez didn't penalize Calzaghe because he saw Bernard pull Joe's head down before the punch.  It looked to me like Joe hit Bernard high on the cup with an open glove.  I've seen a lot of low blows, but I've never seen a "victim" take as much time to recover as Bernard did.

  4. If this fight happens, which I think it will, then Calzaghe will win by a decision.  At this stage of Jones' career, he is simply not active enough due to a combination of his age and him being gun shy (afraid or being KO'd again).  Calzaghe would outwork Roy to a unanimous decision win- it would be similar to the Hopkins fight.  However, if this fight happened when Roy was in his prime, it would be an easy win for Roy, just like how I think if the Hopkins fight happened a few years ago, it would have been an easy win for Hopkins.  As it stands, I am looking forward to this fight to see Jones get that last shot at becoming champ, but I think that he will ultimately lose to Calzaghe due to Joe's hyperactive style.

  5. Roy Jones

  6. Ohh... come on!  throw him to Pavlik ,lol!

Well If Calzaghe is smart  enough and wants to make some money,  he needs to get everything he can like the Jones fight and any other fighter before he hits agains Pavlik. Pavlik will demolish Calzaghe.

  7. yeah i agree with u,,calzaghe would beat jones,,probabley stop him in the late rounds,,but who is that d**k who said throw him in with pavlik,,does he even know what boxing is all about

  8. prime roy would absolutely destroy calzaghe but now it would be a lot closer, . roy has far better hand speed and power than hopkins. i think roy will ko him
