Serena would not stand a chance, just because she looks like a man does not mean she can play like one. The Williams sisters played a very lowly ranked man a few years ago, 1 set each  and only won 1 game each. The guy later told someone he let them each win a game for the crowds approval.

For me, this would actually be a very entertaining match and my opinion is that it would also be very close depending on the conditions and the surface.

I think if they played on indoor carpet, this is the type of match that could go the distance. John McEnroe may be much older, but he is still in great shape (beating much younger players on the senior tour) and is still a great volleyer. Serena is probably the best female player in the world and she hits the ball harder than any other woman (except her sister Venus). So she would actually be very competitive with John.

I think Serena would have the edge in lateral (side to side) movement while John would have the edge in forwards movement since he is used to serving and volleying. Serena actually would have a slightly harder serve than John and her groundstrokes would probably be at least as hard (if not harder than John's). But McEnroe would play the more attacking style moving into net and putting pressure on Serena, so it would be a close match.

I would think that Serena would take the match a little bit more seriously than John which would give her the mental edge to win. Serena would feel like she has something to prove while John would just be out there trying to have fun and enjoy the experience. So Serena would probably win in a tight 3 sets.

And to the guy who said that he knows 16 year old boys that can beat Serena, my answer to that is (prove it). Unless they are already competing on the ATP tour, I find that hard to believe. I know grown men (including myself who I consider to be a pretty good player) who would get their *** kicked by any female player in the top 50. A casual tennis player (even if they are very good) is not going to be competitive with a professional athlete (male or female). I played a 40 year old woman (who use to be a collegiate player) a few months ago and even though I won the match it was still very close. Serena would completely kick my ***, and so would John McEnroe even at his age.

You've GOT to be kidding.  McEnroe would KILL Serena.  Serena (or any of the women) have never faced the wicked lefty serve of McEnroe, or his impeccable touch at the net.  Lendl served way harder than Serena .  End of discussion.

I can't believe everyone is saying Serena. It's the match up you have to look at, not their individual plays. Serena has nothing that John can't handle. Whatever she has, Mac has seen better from other male players. And John has a lot that Serena has never seen. For one, Mac serves and volleys. That alone is going to win him this match. Serena's passing shots are not going to scare JMac. I'm sure also, Serena has never seen a lefty serve swinging out wide. Serena also does not have a killer serve (as far as any pro male player is concerned), so Mac is going to chip and charge on her serve as well. You know Mac is not going to let it degenerate into a baseline slugfest. Mac is smart.
