If Clemente played like he actually played in the 1971 WS, the '71 team would win.  '79 Pirates probably had more power.  But I would give the edge in the rotation to the '71 team.

Roberto Clemente was one of the finest ballplayers to ever grace a diamond and he was a wrecking ball in that 71 Series. The 79 team pulled a major upset of the heavily favored Orioles in the 79 Series.  Somehow, and someway, I believe that the Clemente led 71 Pirates would have won a 7 games Series against the 79 Pirates 4 games to 3.

Not only Stargell would play himself, but also on both teams were Manny Sanguillen, Dock Ellis and Bruce Kison, just to name a few. The big comparison would be in RF where you'd have Clemente vs Dave Parker. The rest of the match-ups are:

All-in-all, I think the 1971 team probably had a little more talent. However, the "We are Family" 1979 team seemed to have more team spirit and the ability to win the big game. I honestly would hate to choose one over the other, but sometimes heart beats talent so I'd go with the '79 version. I wish those days were back!
