Professional athletes get seriously hurt when they fight him - there's no way an actor would walk away on his own two feet from a Fedor beat down.

Seagal would do fine against other actors he's fought on screen like Tommy Lee Jones.  When he was younger and in shape he probably could've even beat up some big WW Wrastlin' guys, but I don't think he'd have any chance against a professional fighter.

God, I want to mock Seagal's acting so bad here!  Fedor is at the top of his game at this moment in time, so he seams like the obvious choice.  

To play devil's advocate, Seagal has been training almost as long as Fedor has been alive.  Without the rules of submission or illegal strikes, the question of physical stature takes a back seat to training and technique.  

Remember, bad acting and movie fighting is no measure of Seagal's actual ability.  He had to change his techniques for the camera because it was to quick and didn't look dramatic enough.  That, by definition, is what every martial artist aspires to.  

Sure! He might be a hack actor, but I wouldn't say that to his face.

First of all, I'll recommend that you take some gun classes and learn how to use a handgun very effectively. It's the best defense outhere. Second, for hand-to-hand, I wouldn't recommend most traditional martial arts outhere. Specially, the Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. They are ill suited for modern self-defense.

Some Kali form, not all of them, are good. The Dog Brothers system are very realistics too. Muay Thai, if you can adapted it for the street, can be good in a street brawl but not life and death situation. And I would highly recommend Krav Maga, Jim Wagner's system and a few others.
