the one who is about to be shot. Living my life knowing i killed someone, espesuialy someone with a child would be worse than death

If I am the one about to be shot, there is nothing I could do to prevent it.  If I am the one who is shooting, there is: refusing to shoot. And I am back where I started.

There is a small blotch of a shadow in the middle of the picture barely visible in the roughness of an uneven ground. The angle of incident of light in the picture informs us that the shadow is that of the human figure, probably a woman holding a human child in her arms. The shadow, I think, will no longer be there once the drama has reached the finality of its act. I do not think either it is hard to see and realise what impending poignancy is probable to unfold. Whatever it is going to be a moment later, I feel, is more in the way that it is now.

How am I going to deal with this? I am who is weak and vulnerable. I am who is childish and self seeking. I have not yet learnt to see deeper into the proper meaning of things and far enough into the consequences of events. I still need to admit that I become cold, indifferent and senseless in situations, situations that require warmth, courage and compassion. I let things happen to me, and then turn round to blame the world for all its ills. I remain very much in need most of the time, and my deeds are non-productive, they seldom surfeit the wants of my bare necessities. If I am like this through most of the situations of my life then would it not easy for me to be the same here? I think I will be like a child here too, the child.

I therefore prefer to be the child the woman is carrying. Firstly, I hope that the man with the gun would never pull the trigger. I feel I will be saved by the love of the woman, by her unwilling sacrifice of her life, by her being between me and our killer. Then, I hope that the soldier, as that is what he appears to be, would be stopped by his sense of humanity, or by the fear of God, Who will be merciful to me, and I would be left undone.
