Closing on No. 2 – Djokovic comes into Hamburg after winning his ATP-best third title of the season on Sunday in Rome. The 20-year-old Serb moved to within 310 points of No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the South African Airways ATP Rankings. Djokovic could move to No. 2 for the first time after Hamburg since Nadal will drop his '07 Hamburg runner-up points (350) and Djokovic will lose his quarterfinal points (125). Djokovic will move to No. 2 IF he finishes two rounds better than Nadal in Hamburg; OR he reaches the semifinals and Nadal loses in the quarterfinals; OR he defeats Nadal in the semifinals. Nadal has ranked No. 2 a record 147 consecutive weeks since July 25, 2005.

  1. 1-Nadal, 2-Murray, 3-Federer

Seriously I'd like to see Nadal stay at number 2 for the time being. But Djokovic is close so we'll see what happens :-)

  2. A lot of people say that Djokovic is much better than Nadal, and call Nadal a man capri wearing, crotch grabbing, clay-court specialist.  Now, I'm not agreeing with what he does, but seriously, cut him some slack.  They criticize him for being a clay-court specialist, and say that he deserves to be below Djokovic.  If he was that bad at hard and grass courts, than he wouldn't have made it into the international stage.  To be a pro, you gotta be good at all courts, like Nadal is.  I think that he is so good on clay, his game on the other surfaces looks bad, when it's actually above average for a top ATP pro. True, that Djokovic is a more versatile, and possibly techincally correct player, but if he was that much better than Nadal, he would've already made it.

Despite all this, I have a feeling that Djokovic will take the French Open from Nadal and rise to number 2 this year, and number 1 by next year.  Both Nadal and Federer seem to be going into a decline, but short term or long, I think Djokovic will eventually beat them and rise to become the new dominant force in the world of tennis.

    Go Nadal though...

  3. both are very good players and i want rafeal as no. 1 & novak as no.2.

  4. I want to see them play each other more often and then decide. One always loses before they can meet lately. It's been Nadal most of the time

  5. Djokob*tch at No.2? h**l no... this isn't a good djok!

  6. Djokovic at #1 but since he will take over spot #2 first, i would like to see him there too. I would prefer Djokovic 1, Davydenko 2 and Youhzny 3!

  7. Nadal.

  8. Rafael Nadal. I have respect for Novak ability but Rafael Nadal has pay his due, he has work much harder and longer than Novak.

  9. Djokovic... Number 1

    Nadal... Number 2

    Davydenko... Number 3

  10. I like Djokovic's confidence; the sport needs somebody like him. He has a better game than Nadal and deservedly so should hold the #2 ranking and eventually the #1. I mean why should a grunting, crotch grabbing clay specialist succeed the likes of Federer as the world's top player?

  11. I'd rather see Djokovic at #1, but #2 will do until then.

  12. I like Djokovic more than Nadal, but I would rather it go to the player who is the second best player in the world

  13. I'd have Nadal at #2 but tht's after Djokovic takes #1 spot.

  14. Novak coz' he deserved it. He's on an up climb hill & will be dangerous for the Fed. If Fed will not succeed winning titles, we might have another champion in Novak & start another hero in the making. I sensed Fed is somewhat on the downhill, but I hope he would find the counter measures in due time to save his grace. Novak can out do Rafa, he's got the solutions to beat him somehow, while other top players are still unable to counter his new stuffs & abilities.

    Good times bro

  15. nadal

  16. I would like it to remain as it is at the moment in regards to the 1 2 and 3 spot. I think they are true relfections of the players skill. Federer is the best on hard and grass so he should be number 1; Nadal is the best on clay; Djokovic is good on all surfaces and is most likely to win if the other two get knocked out as in Rome. If Djokovic moves up to number 2 I think tennis fans would hate it as we are already seeing a more arrogant side to him with the comments and quitting. Nadal seems to have more respect to his fans and never quits unless he really has to. I like the joker but he needs to prove himself against Nadal and Fed before he deserves to move up a notch!

  17. I´d have Rafa at nr2 and Djokovic at nr100 :))) ok.. seriously now... We´ll see what happens in Hamburg.. I hope Rafa is in good form and keeps winning...
