Who would you rather have to hit the game-winning shot: Larry Bird or Magic Johnson?

finally!! a Lakers fan who doesn't trash talk... i'm probably going to choose you as the Best Answer. thanks a lot and i really hope you answer more of my questions in the future.

Im a Laker fan, and Magic is one of my favorites, but i wont hesitate to say that Larry Bird is the greatest pure shooter in the history of basketball. I hate him, because he used to KILL the Lakers, but I respect him because he is one h**l of a player. If I had to have someone hit a shot with my life on the line, I would choose Larry "Legend" Bird.

well, I had the good fortune to see MANY of Larry's in the Garden in person and on cable elsewhere...I also had a TON of respect for Magic...I'm gonna go with ESPN on this one who rated Larry as the #1 shooter ALL TIME in the NCAA (Pistol was #2 btw...)...

Actually, the question is phrased incorrectly.  Having anyone hit the winning shot would be cool.  Which player should have the ball in a game winning situation is a different question.  That would depend on the clock and the score.  But if all you have time to do is catch and shoot, Larry Bird is the answer.  If the score is down one and you have time to make a play, then the answer is Magic.  But he might not be the actual scorer in that situation.

Magic had a great baby hook shot to win the game in the finals against the celtics, but he is more likely gona be the won that will pass or create the winning shot for a teamate.  Bird is a better shooter than Magic, but magic was a PG and ran the team so his job wasn't always to take the last second.
