  1. Mike Schmidt. He has power

  2. Mike Schmidt.

But I remember being a Met Fan in the late sixties and early seventies when d**k Allen used to punish us with his swing.  He hit some rockets

  3. Mike Schmidt.

Greatest third baseman ever. No one else in franchise history rates as "greatest ever" at any other position. Makes it an easy decision.

    QED.

  4. I will say Mike Schmidt for good reason.  Think about it like this.  The man had over 400 career home runs and back then 400 home runs was a way bigger accomplishment than it is these days.  He was most likely the best third baseman defensively of all time.  He won gold glove after gold glove, year after year.  Mike Schmidt is the best Phillie that ever lived

  5. Mike Schmit...One of the best all around players of all time.

  6. I'm gonna go with Steve Carlton, here, though you could make a case for Mike Schmidt, or Chuck Klein, for that matter, but, that's my opinion. I could be wrong, and I expect others will disagree, which is what makes talking baseball fun!

    Cheers

  7. thomas perez

  8. schmidy

  9. Mike Schmidt

  10. John Kruk

  11. Mike Schmidt, but I think it will be Chase Utley eventually

  12. idk

  13. Steve Carlton.  Steve "Lefty" Carlton holds the Phillies record for the most strikeouts by a pitcher, over 3,000.  Over his 24-year career. Carlton enjoyed 10 All-Star seasons and a Gold Glove in 1981.  He was the first pitcher ever to win four Cy Young Awards, and had six 20-win seasons.  Carlton was also dangerous at the plate, with a .201 career average and 13 HR.  Steve "Lefty" Carlton is the greatest Phillies player of all time.

  14. Mike Schmidt 70s/ 1989 area. Greatest of any NL 3rd baseman of all time. Hit with homerun power and average. Perennial all star NL 3rd baseman. 4 home runs in 1 game 4/17/76. (38 homeruns). 6 times led NL homers. 1980 hit 48 homeruns. Most rbis 2 times.

Its interesting you choose only 3 of all the years of baseball in the Philadelpelphia Phillies history.Robin Roberts? Eddie Waitkus 50s all star 1st baseman?   Steve Carlton 4 times NL Cy Young award winner?  So Whoever anybody picks There is a lot of "greatest Phillies" to choose. I so like Mike Schmidt though. Hes right up there with my own Ted Williams (greatest Al hitter of all time of the Boston Red Sox.) cheers.

  15. How about a vote for Robin Roberts (going back to the 50's) 276 wins, 6 20-game win seasons in a row (most of the time for a losing team). He also gave up over 500 HRS in his career, but those solo shots don't hurt you as much.

    Found this from wikipedia:

Between 1950 and 1955 Roberts won 20 games each season, leading the NL in victories from 1952 to 1955. Six times he led the league in games started, five times in complete games and innings pitched, and once pitched 28 complete games in a row. During his career, Roberts never walked more than 77 batters in any regular season. Beside this, he helped himself as a fielder as well as with his bat, hitting 55 doubles, 10 triples, and five home runs with 103 RBI.

His 28 wins in 1952, the year he won the The Sporting News Player of the Year Award, are the most in the National League since 1935, the year Dizzy Dean also won 28 games.

Despite his 28 victories in 1952, Roberts enjoyed his best season in 1953, posting a 23-16 record and leading the NL pitchers in strikeouts with 198. In a career-high 346⅔ innings pitched he walked just 66 batters, and his 2.75 ERA was second in the league behind Warren Spahn 2.10, narrowly missing the Triple Crown.

In my opinion, he's one of the most underrated pitchers of all time.

  16. I would have to say Mike Schmidt. Alexander was obviously the greatest player among the three, but he spent considerable parts of his career with other teams. Schmidt was a perennial All-Star, an 8-time HR king, and a 10-time Gold Glove Award winner. He was just the most complete third baseman to ever play the game.

  17. schmit.. HOFer!!!

  18. Mike Schmidt is the GREATEST Phillies player of all time. He is a Hall of Famer, in the 500 HR club, and aided the Phillies to their only World Series Championship (1980). Schmidt was a GREAT player and hitter.

  19. Michael Jack Schmidt

  20. Milt Thompson
