I want to be an editor or be something that pretains to reading a book. I wanted to know who writes the little excerpt on the back of the novels?

  1. They are called "blurbs", actually, and publishers get them from many sources, depending on their practices and policies, such as advertising department copywriters, other authors, reviewers, etc.

  2. There actually are blurb writers and I thank God for them. I suck at writing blurbs.

This is how it works with my publisher. Your mileage may vary:

I give my attempt at a blurb to my editor.

She turns it over to this ink-stained angel and turns it into something that will entice people to buy my books. Sheer genius.

It's half writing/half marketing and requires a deft touch.

I don't think that's *all* she does. I think she might actually be a copyeditor, too. Whatever she is, I'm grateful.

  3. Not positive but I think the author does.  I you have to give a brief synopsis of your book when you submit a query letter to potential publishers and editors so it would make sense that they would do something similar for the book cover.
