As already stated, what makes a biography an autobiography is that the author is the person himself.

But it needs pointed out that Abraham Lincoln NEVER wrote any autobiography. NEVER, never, never.

There have been a couple very good biographies written about him. The latest was one by Gore Vidal. Vidal always gets great attention when he delivers new work, and this was no exception. Possibly you have this biography (NOT autobiography) in mind.
