  1. mayweather can do it but he done have the balls to do it.I reallybthink margarito has the best chance of beating cotto. He has heart, he can hit hard with both hands. And he has a granite chin. This fight can go either way. But I would still favor cotto because he is more skilled.

edit-to voneric, u have to give cotto credit for getting up and  beating the c**p out  of corley and torres who also knocked him down.thats what champions do they get up and finish the fight. dont compare mosley and floyd . mosley attacks floyd hits and runs. and mosley has a great chin nobody can keep him down.tell me this who gave judah a bigger beating floyd or cotto? i know my boxing buddy...

  2. I personally think that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. can beat him, but I'll leave him out of the equation because I don't think that they will fight for a while.  Lets run through the top 10 according to Ring Magazine, and see who has the best chance:

NOTE- I only have 9 listed because Cotto is currently rated #1 and Floyd is the reigning champ:

Shane Mosley- Cotto already beat Mosley in a close fight, so he is out of the equation.

Carlos Quintana- Cotto already thrashed Quintana, so he is out of the equation.

Paul Williams- He recently lost to Quintana but he will get a chance to avenge his only defeat, and I think that if Williams is as focused as he was for his fight against Antonio Margarito, then he has a good chance of beating Cotto.

Antonio Margarito- He will most likely fight Cotto later this year, and I think that Margarito will make Cotto fight at a pace that he has never fought before.  I would favor Cotto in a close fight, but Margarito certainly can beat Cotto if he fights his fight.

Zab Judah- He already lost to Cotto in a fairly one-sided fight and was knocked out, so he is out of the equation.

Kermit Cintron- He is a good, strong fighter physically, but not mentally.  I think he'll lose his rematch to Margarito, but if he somehow does beat him, I would not favor him over Cotto because Cotto is too strong for him in my opinion.

Luis Collazo- He is a slick boxer who gave Ricky Hatton a lot of problems in a losing effort and he lost a lopsided decision to Mosley.  Seeing as Mosley lost to Cotto, I don't see Collazo being able to beat Cotto either.

Joshua Clottey- A good, hardworking fighter who has the possibility of scoring an upset, but I think that Cotto would be too strong for him, similarly to how Margarito was too strong for him regardless of the hand injury.  If his hands hold up, he has a better chance, but I would still favor Cotto over him.

Jackson Bonsu- He has not fought enough of the top contenders for me to even consider him fighting Cotto.

Based on what I've said, I would give Paul Williams (if he is focused) or Antonio Margarito to have the best CHANCE at winning besides Floyd.  I'm not saying that they would beat him, but I think that they are a cut above the others in the top 10.  Three of the top 10 have already lost to Cotto, so that shows you something about how committed he is to becoming the best in the world.

  3. not Floyd because Floyd is too busy trying to look cute as a wrestler...ho Mr. entertainer..sigh

    Margarito....could be

    Oscar???? maybe

    Paul W. possible.

    Winky..yeap

    Hopman .....yes

  4. Floyd Mayweather

  5. well to be blount no body is anytime soon

  6. MONEY MAYWEATHER

  7. not that fagot floyd mayweather who jumps arround the ring and never fights.

  8. in my opinion mayweather is the one who will stop him if they fought, cuz mayweather has great defense and speed with great counter punching skills

  9. know for a fact that Floyd Mayweather can stop him. I am not trying to sound like a cocky prick that he is, but that is the fact.

    Heres why:

    - is way too fast for him

    - stamina that nobody can match

    - defense is pretty much untouchable

    - cotto always drops his performance drastically in the late rounds.

    - mayweather is an outside fighter, cotto loves to get inside and go to the body

I think Hatton vs. Cotto would be a great fight. It is probably not going to happen because idk if hatton wants to fight at 147, i think he is going to stay at 140. Miguel already has trouble staying at 147, i doubt he is going to drop to 140

It would be a hard fight to market too because Hattons from England and Cotto's from Puerto Rico. Hattons a nice guy and cotto cant even talk in english so their press confrences would be boring and the fight would not get hyped. The reason Roy Jones, Mayweather, and Ali made a fortune out of boxing was because they talked a lot of ****(p**p) and people wanted to come see them.

I really do think that Miguel Cotto is a class fighter and 2007 was his best year by far going 3 - 0 and beating Mosley and Judah.

He is fighting Alfonso Gomez from the Contender on April 12 and Ricardo Mayorga on July 19. If he stays undefeated this year he should deff try to fight Mayweather in early 2009.

Cotto is only 27 and Mayweather is 30. Mayweather is most likely going to fight once or twice after his De La Hoya rematch in sept.

  10. MARQUEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AKA THE BOXER THAT GETS ROBBED BY THE BLIND JUDGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the best right now is mayweather hands down. Say what you want people it dsnt matter how he fights its WHO he fights and mayweather has fought..............and beat the best

  11. Voneric you are delirious. Floyd barely beat an aging Oscar. If you recall he split decisioned a guy who is slower and older than Cotto! Don't even try to say that Oscar is at the top of his game cause he's not. He's way past his prime! And Mosley would mop the floor with Floyd. Floyd doesn't have the pop to even step into the ring against Cotto. Speed is great when you can utilize it.

But ask anyone who was faster in Jermaine Taylor's first fight against an "inferior opponent who was one dimensional and slower" in Pavlik ? Sounds eerliy familiar to the same comparisons of Floyd and Cotto.

  12. Well i personally think that he proballly wont be stopped and yes that is including if he fights floyd mayweather.  The biggest challenge to cotto in my opinon is antonio margarito, he throws hard straight punches, outworks his opponents has a great chin, and cottos chin has been a question.  Margarito is an active fighter and if they meet it will be a great fight, margarito i think will give cottto his toughest fight, and i think that cotto would beat mayweather but margarito might beat cotto.

  13. A few months ago I would have said Paul Williams, simply due to the odd style he presents, but that was before Quintana showed have movement, and blind looping overhand counters could easily take Williams down.

Right now at Welterweight Floyd Mayweather would likely beat Cotto.  Mosley would have a shot in a rematch, especially if he made adjustments after the first fight.  Margarito would present some problems and would provide a good challenge.  Berto with afew more fights could also provide a challenge.  Quintana would likely provide him a better challenge a second time around.

Other top contenders: Cotto would break Cintron's will.  He'd outwork Clottey.  Beat Zab Judah easier in a rematch.

  14. I am not sure, I havent seen him boxing.

  15. Franks, I guess you havent seen the Torres fight. Who is Torres? Im going to leave PBF out of this because Cotto camp chose to send Bruseles to fight PBF, instead of going in hisself. Yes, Bruseles trained with Cotto and by the same guy that trains Cotto. Not trying to here the excuses.

I think Margarito can beat him, because he's a hard nose fighter and can make Cotto fight. In the same way, Margarito is a brawler with no defense and Cotto could use the jab to win like he did Mosley. Margarito can cut the ring off better than Mosley. Mosley did rock Cotto but was stop for some water on the mat. I guess alot of people forgot about that.

I think Clottey would beat him. He lost to Margarito because of a hand injury and it still came out to a close decision. Lets get the story right. Clottey just came off a win tonight and still look good.

We all know that styles make fights. I like Cintron but dont think he have the mental game. Cotto doesn't have good defense and Cintron could slip one fo those hard punches in. Its not like its hard to hit Cotto. He has no head movement, flat footed and is willing to trade. All these are if's. We will have to wait to see what happens.
