Whole flaxseed has been refrigerated for a year. Are they still good?

  1. I suppose but ground flaxseed is best to get the benefits of it,otherwise you wont digest it.

It's possible that the most beneficial aspects of the flaxseed - the naturally high omega 3 fatty acid content - might have begun to degenerate since not only could they have sat around on a store shelf for months, but they've been in a fridge for a year as well. It might not be rancid yet, and you can still cook with it and enjoy the taste, but it might not have the full benefit of fresher flaxseeds.

  3. Smell it. Does it smell rancid? I use flax seed  all of the time. If it has been refrigerated, I doubt it is bad.
