How much milk should a baby have in a day? My son (one) has been off of formula for a few weeks now (a little early but he is doing fine with it) and i was just wondering how much he should have. He drinks a lot of water and only gets juice every other day. Thanks!

  1. Our DR recommended 18 to 24 oz daily

  2. At one yr he should have about 3 cups of whole milk daily.  By age 2 he won't need the fat from whole milk and you can switch to fat free.

  3. Our dr. recommended the same as luv2bamommy... 18 - 24 oz.  Our son gets 6-8 oz. at breakfast, lunch, dinner and shortly before bed.  I always make sure he has a cup of water handy if he gets thirsty other times throughout the day.

  4. when we went to my dd 1 year well check the doctor asked us how many oz she was drinking & we told her 32oz just like shed been doing with formula + 2-3 actual meals

she told us 32 oz was too much & we should be giving her more solids

she said about 20 oz is perfect

  5. He doesn't NEED any whole milk at all, as long as he's getting the necessary nutrients from other souces.

If he is getting milk, 16-20 ounces a day is a good amount. (Too much will fill him up and leave less room for other foods, which can result in anemia.  Unlike formula/breastmilk, whole milk isn't a complete food.)

  6. AT LEAST 24 OZ OF WHOLE MILK. HE SHOULD BE GETTING MILK OVER ANYTHING EVEN WATER, FOR HIS DEVELOPMENTAL GROWTH HE NEEDS WHAT THE MILK HAS. THATS WHY THEY EXTEND FORMULAS UP PAST 2 YEARS OLD BECAUSE OF ALL THE IMPORTANT VITAMINS IT HAS. HE NEEDS TO HAVE MILK AND OCCASIONALLY GET THE OTHER THINGS.

  7. I believe its 2 8oz servings or 4 4oz servings a day of milk for the little guy.  As for the juice, as long as you are giving him 100% juice it counts as a serving of fruit - i always watered it down a little for my little girl - it stretched it out plus she could have more than just the one cup. I was also able to use it as a diaretic when needed in case she got a little bound up bc i always watered it down - she was always great after a cup of apple juice - just an extra tip!

  8. as long as your son is drinking a pint of milk a day along with a normal diet etc proper breakfast, lunc, dinner and snacks this is plenty but remember if he is eating plenty of youghurts and cheese then he will be getting plenty of calcium from these so it may not always be necessary to get him to drink a pint of milk a day. this is a pint glass or 2 8oz bottles.

  9. no more then 32 ounces a day.
