  1. That's WHO recycles 55 gal drums ....  WHOM is the objective form.

  2. The landfill in my area has a recylcing turn in area for batteries and TVs and things like that. If yours has one, then they might take things like that.

  3. i dunno

  4. Reusing drums is even better than recycling them.  If there are music festivals in your area, they might be happy to use them as recycling or trash containers.

Depending on what was in them, some people might want to use them to make rain barrels.  If they're food quality plastic, you might even be able to make the rain barrels yourself and make some money from them.  In our area they sell for about $80-90.  They're very easy to make.

If those options don't work for you, you can take them to a scrap yard/recycling center.  They might reuse or recycle them.  If the barrels are made of steel you should get a few cents per pound for them.

If you call an area scrap yard, they can probably put you in touch with someone who would go and pick up metal barrels for free.

  5. Nearly every state has programs or contractors that are involved in recycling 55-gallon drums -- provided they meet federal and state guidelines.

The first link below (from the state of New Hampshire's site) provides a list of criteria that are pretty standard for what is expected from a potentially recyclable 55-gallon drum.

Also check with local businesses.  I'm not to far from Chicago and I know of a couple companies that will pay up to $5.00 for a drum that meets their needs.

Good luck.  Hope you might be able to even turn a buck on this!

  6. bring it to a scrap yard and get paid for it.

  7. Unless they have had something extra nasty in them, they are worth money for recycling - plastic or metal drums both can be recycled.

Check out your local yellow pages.
