  1. Phil in it? I would have to say that Phil is favorite.

Anyone else notice that Sergio has not played since his win a few weeks ago?  One and done?

  2. Not much news this week in golf, except Mickelson’s win at Colonial and Tiger’s presser at Congressional, the first time he’s talked since having his knee scoped. I’ve never had such surgery and I hope I neverdo. Nobody knows the extent of the damage and he does seem young to have had three operations on the knee byage 32.

But I’m not sure I buy the stress of walking, which golfers do a lot of, as a theory for his knee problems. Isn’t walking considered the best form of exercise, the least impacting on joints while still getting the system moving, circulating blood and working the lungs and all that other good stuff we get from exercise?

I mean, we’re pretty much not allowed to do any fun stuff anymore, like excessive drinking and smoking.Recreational s*x isn’t as kosher as it used to be.We’re not supposed to eat rich, fatty, great-tasting foods. No sun exposure. Any food that comes in polycarbonate plastic can kill you. And now we can’t walk without risking injury?

Like most people in this modern age, I adjust by lowering my expectations and quality of life. Please, just don’t take away my cable …

Last week: Oh-fer after a big win the week before. I need to stay away from Ben Crane. He does me wrong in every way, as a viewer and as a handicapper.

Onto Muirfield Village for this week’s Memorial. I like this stop because the course is like a Midwesternshire cut out of the woods, with creeks and valleys and tons of sand. It’s been lengthened over the years,of course, but the onus is still on shot-making.Mickelson loves the Memorial and he’s hot now. He would be a good pick. And a bad pick. He is PhilMickelson.

Take Arron Baddeley (40-1), 1/6 unit: Badds shot a 66in the first round of last year’s Memorial. He went on to finish T9, under par all four rounds. It’s a prettysimple formula for Baddeley: if he hits greens, the weakest part of his game, he can win any tournament because he putts lights out.

Take Kenny Perry (25-1), 1/6 unit: If you believe in the hot hand and you’ve been watching golf recently you have to pick Perry. He’s made his last 13 cuts and this month he’s had a T15 and that painful loss in the Atlanta playoff to Ryuji Imada, when his approach hit the tree and bounced backward into the water. That was a devastating loss for a guy desperately trying to make the Ryder Cup, which will be played in his homestate of Kentucky this year. But Perry has some fightin him and he’s at the point in his career when nothing is taken for granted. In fact, his near misses will make him grind more and I like a determined Kenny Perry in a big tournament where he has a strong record---he won in ’03 and finished T3 last year. With that weird, chopping swing Perry is one of the best shot-makers in the biz.

Take Boo Weekley (33-1), 1/6 unit: Hilton Head isn’t the only tournament he’s going to win in his career before he retires early, if he sticks to that plan. Country can play, as all the world knows. The Verizon Heritage win was his fourth top-10 of the year. In his first trip to Muirfield Village he finished T29 last year.

  3. phil

  4. It sure won't be Tiger or VJ.  Maybe Kenny Perry will pull through he usually does pretty well there.  Sergio relaxed in Spain for a couple weeks after the players if he could win the Memorial he will be looking good for the US Open.

  5. Whiever has the lowest score :-)

  6. Sergio can do, Phil is even money. Watch Kenny Perry, if he doesn't fade down the home stretch. Ernie has lost the heart.

Sentimental favorites: Go Woody, unpredicable,  Camillio has the stamina, but can he close. And now for my long shot and favorite to put the food on the table and the trophy in the Pawn Shop. The Viking, The Skinny Swede! Go Jesper Parnivik !! Don't ask.
