Who's better - Ronaldo or Messi?

Ronaldo said "both" when asked in a recent preview, so is he right - are they at a similar level, or is one player clearly better than the other?

Ronaldo said he was better last year. "Both" indicates that he believes Messi is the better player now. Messi is perhaps the more exciting player to watch, but both have the capability to win a match single-handedly.
