I think Ovechkin. He doesnt get half the press that Crosby gets, and besides Crosby has better players on his team that forces defenses not to just worry about him. Ovechkin is about 40% of the Caps offensive production.

Think about it, Crosby has Malkin, Hossa, Staal, Gonchar, etc. What does Ovechkin have? Fedorov? LOL

You can't really judge this because they are very different players, but if given the choice i would choose Ovechkin.  He is more physical, has an amazing shot, can score, is extremely passionate, and plays tremendous defense.  Crosby doesn't score that many goals and could stand to pick up his physicality.  In the end i give it to Ovechkin by a whisker.

They are different players with different roles.  Crosby is an amazing passer and play maker with a great touch for scoring.  Ovechkin is the best scorer in the game and has been consistently since he entered the league (even with a bad Caps team).  He doesn't seem to have that play making ability like Crosby, but he's a much more prolific scorer.

Its a really tough call because the entire building (home or away) gets charged when Ovechkin touches the puck, but not so much for Crosby even though he is just as dangerous.  And then you have to consider how young Crosby is as a captain and how great he is with the public, press and fans (i find this important in a player as well).

I think I have to give the edge to Ovechkin even with out his play making ability but its sooo close.  I think if Crosby has a healthy year it will swing the other way.  They are clearly the two best in the game and its a good time to be a fan so we can watch them for years and years to come!

crosby...the only press ovechkin gets is the whole battle between them. Crosby actually plays and breaks records.

epvuial - You said "you need good people around them for things to work" and I agree but you can't really hold that against Crosby if the other players aren't as good as ovechkin's other players.

Crosby. As much as he is overexposed, he's still, no doubt, a great player... Ovechkin is more of a Malkin, pure shooter type. Crosby plays the game to make everyone around him better, and is better on defense than most are led to believe.

ep, if you play to win the game, I'd give Crosby the edge again.

"you play to win the game!!!" meaning Ovechkin is a better player due to his faaaaaaaaar-superior scoring skills...  yes Crosby is sort of a playmaker and not a scorer but the problems with playmakers is that they need good people around them for things to work who can put the puck in the net. A scorer like Ovechkin is underated in his "playmaking" skills cause he always scores himself and therefore does not get the assists that Crosby gets... in my view he creates just as many "plays" as Crosby and overall better offensively. Defensively Crosby might be better technique-wise but he can't hit, Ovechkin can hit... on top of the fact that he is just way more fun to watch... so Ovechkin hands down for me...
