Ebay will ultimately provide more exposure for your item, and possible bid it up to more than you were planning to sell it for. However, if you are selling items, ebay will take a cut of what you sell it for, where as craigslist is entirely free. Also, craigslist allows you to list items exclusively in your area, so selling large things, that you would not want to ship is easier.

As for buying things, I would suggest Ebay, it is fairly secure and trustworthy, and you don't have to go anywhere to pick up or pay for your item. Also, you are more likely to find what you are looking for there first.

As a final note, it never hurts to list something in both places, because if it sells on ebay, you can always erase your craigslist post.

i say craigslist is better for hiring help like someone to fix something at your house and ebay is better for buyin stuff like cars and clothes and etc

Craiglist on ebay to many people lie about paying or sending the iem i've used craig's list and found out it worked well but ebay it was hard to get the items i wanted(so many bids offering WAY more money then i had)but craigslist is much easier to get items and stuff.

Craigslist HOWEVER watch out for the scum bags who try and get you to sell your item to someone who does not live in your town.

Everytime I put something on Craigslist I get some knucklehead that wantS to buy it with a PHONY check and have a local moving company come and pick it up.

I always say the same thing: NO! CASH ONLY!, AND YOU ARE GOING TO PICK IT UP, NOT A MOVING COMPANY.

Be smart and do both. as you proceed you will grow and learn what to sell on each. Furniture/vehicles/powertools/ craigslist, antiques/collectables/ect ebay. It takes time, but I learned.
