kobe is better right now because he had the outside shot.  the outside shot is crucial in being a top scorer because it makes the defense come up close to him, that allows kobe to use his agility and jumping ability to quickly make a move on the defender and drive the lane.  IF a defender is playing off kobe a bit then it is harder to drive the lane so kobe fakes towards the hoop and steps back and has a clear shot if he is accurate.  The only way to stop him is if you double him up  which will create a whole in the defense leaving open a teammate.  That is why kobe was the mvp.  If by the king you mean James he is not as good or versatile as kobe yet.  Yet being the key word because james is so young that he is slowly trying to develop a good jump shot.  He does not have it yet but give him a few years and he will be just as dominating as kobe.  I like james better inside tho because he is so used to going to the hole that it seems as if he has a second pair of eye balls and he just knows how to get it in there.  But he really needs to work on his outside game because players are realizing that all they need to do is to play him loose and dont let him get inside.  Sure he might make a couple outside but not as many as he will make.  There for Making KOBE the best right now

Why do people say LeBron is better because of Kobe losing in the Finals. The Celtics were the best team in the NBA, they were supposed to lose. Do these morons forget that LeBron got swept in the Finals? People say he is so good and makes his teammates better he should at least win one game. I mean Kobe beat that same team in 5 games that LeBron lost to in 4 games. Anyone who says the only thing Kobe does better is shoot is dead wrong. Let's list. Shooting, defense, passing (Kobe makes better passes), leading a team (i know that will get thumbs down but it's true), making plays in the clutch (that one will too but people are stupid).I could go on and on, but I won't. Kobe>LeBron for a long long time.

Whether you are a Laker fan or not, a Kobe hater or not, if you know the game of basketball then the answer is Kobe Bryant.

If you want to make an argument for Lebron James I can understand that. In terms of just statistics, for the 2007-2008 regular season Lebron is slightly better. Based on Hollinger's Player Effiency Rating (PER), which is a rating of a player's per-minute productivity, Lebron is "King":

But Kobe is among the league's best in terms of statistics as well, and to determine who is "better" we have to go beyond just numbers. Kobe is a notch above Lebron right now. Both players are incredible offensive forces, able to create their own shots and score at will. But Kobe Bryant is clearly a better defensive player. He is an 8 time All-Defensive Team selection. How many times has Lebron James earned that honor? Zero.

This past season Kobe led his team to more wins, went deeper in the playoffs...and he did it in a tougher conference. In addition, Kobe has more playoff experience and three championship rings on Lebron. Until both of their careers are over we won't be able to make a final judgement, but as of right now Kobe Bryant is clearly the best basketball player playing right now.

If you were to poll those with the most professional basketball knowledge, such as fellow NBA players, NBA coaches, GM's, the media that covers the NBA, and other NBA executives, they would overwhelmingly agree that Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world right now.

The King because if you were to put Kobe in Lebron's predicament with the team around him they would just absolutely suck. Where if you put Lebron where Kobe is right now you would probably get 3 titles in the next 5 yrs.

Lebron last season clearly has better stats, but stats are not everything. Kobe has seriously developed into a leader and instead of carrying his team like he did last year and James was doing this season, he inspired them so they played better and he could relax more himself. If James didn't have to carry his team, his stats wouldn't be that good...The better players you have, the worse your stats get. That's why he wasn't MVP like Kobe (or CP3 who deserved it too)...

So, short answer, I think Kobe is better for now...With great stats and a winning team that he is clearly the core of, of course he is better.
