  1. the average rugby player .

  2. Depends - on a whole, I woudl say the average rugby players, because even the largest props are faster than offensive lineman. However, if you only looked at skill positions in football, I would give them a lsight edge over rugby due to the specialization of some of the speed positions. Still, I give the overall edge to rugby. Also, you say let's see the avergae rugby player run a 4.5 40. That time is considered good for running backs, above avergae for receivers and d-backs, and very fast for every other positions, so it's not like everyone is doing that. There's tight ends and linebackers running 4.9's and 5's, and linemand running 5.6's, so I don't think the average is 4.5.

  3. What about ex Wales Winger Nigel Walker an Olympian in the hurdles

  4. the average rugby player... they all average above average...

  5. I'd say the rugby player their much more fit to cause of the flowing game

  6. There's no such thing as an average rugby player...wingers are meant to be fast...Nigel Walker of Wales, Campese of Australia, Underwood of England... whereas props etc are not renowned for their speed and even I  ( an ex-sprinter at 53) probably beat many of them over 40m.

  7. The gridiron guys are quicker over 100 metres.  Like sprinters, they run for a limited time in a gridiron game.

Rugby players have to keep moving for the duration of the game.  They are fitter than the Gridiron guys, just not as quick for the short bursts that Gridiron bases itself on.

Debo - Don't call that bollocks Gridiron game football?  That's an insult to to Football.  It's Gridiron mate.  Football is the World Cup, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich.  Football players are guys like Steve Gerrard, Ronaldiihno, Canavarro, Didier Drogba.  Not some geezer with with a helmet and shoulder pads that should be on a motor bike.

Think global mate, if you can

  8. What is up with the football/rugby war lately?  My God...

Anyway, football players (Skill positions) are faster than most Backs in Rugby.  But, you have to consider that football players train to run quickly in short bursts.  So, they're going to have incredible top speed.  Ruggers generally train to run at a little bit lower speed but for longer time periods.  On a whole, if you averaged all football players together (linemen, backs, QBs, backers, etc...) with all ruggers (forwards and backs), I would GUARANTEE that ruggers would put up a cumulative time in the 40 that was quicker than that of football players.

And I've played both sports...I know enough about both of them to make informed decisions.

BTW...your answers to questions...classic...how old are you?  10?...If you want to answer questions on Yahoo!, why don't you try to answer them with a little knowledge behind them so you don't sound so uneducated.

  9. Who cares ?

I've never played or watched AF, and there is a very fat chance that I never will.

There is a whole world outside of USA. Get over yourselves and your bizarre bastardisation of rugby.

I could care less if the AF guys are quicker, the Yank rugby team sucks !

David Smith does 40 meters in 4.1secs and he's on the bench for the Blues.
