  1. August 7(?), 1560 – August 21, 1614),  She was a Hungarian noblewoman, who thought that she could stay young by bathing in the blood of virgins.  She had girls taken from her nearby village to be her servants, and they were put into an "Iron Maiden," and the spikes poked into them and their blood ran into a container underneath, and she bathed in the blood, and some say drank the blood.  She killed over 100 women.  Eventually the village ran out of girls, and she took daughters of the nobility into her household and killed them.  When their families complained, her own relatives looked into it, and found out what she was doing and locked her in a tower of her castle for the rest of her life, which lasted four years. She was bricked into the room, with only a small hole in the wall for food, etc..

  2. Countess Erzsébet Báthory born 7 August 1560 – 21 August, 1614, was a Hungarian countess from the renowned Báthory family. She was not queen but was from a very poweful aristocrate family. Through her mother, she was the niece of Stefan Batory, King of Poland. At the age of eleven she was engaged to Ferenc Nádasdy and moved to Nádasdy Castle in Sárvár.

She is considered the most infamous serial killer in Hungarian and Slovak history and is remembered as the Bloody Lady of Čachtice (Csejte), after the castle near Trenčín (Trencsén), in Royal Hungary, in present-day Slovakia, where she spent most of her life. After her husband's death, she and her four alleged collaborators were accused of torturing and killing dozens of girls and young women.

In 1610, she was imprisoned in Čachtice Castle, where she remained until her death four years later. Her nobility allowed her to avoid trial and execution. The Báthory case has inspired many stories, featuring the countess bathing in the blood of her victims in order to retain her youth. This inspired nicknames like the Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.

  3. never heard of her

  4. I have. She used to bathe in the blood of young virgins because she believed it would keep her youthful.

I spent one whole day looking up stuff about her- she was really sick. It would amaze you how violent the middle ages really were.

  5. Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_B...

One theory is that she was a serial killer who murdered tens if not hundreds.   This led to a latter rumour that she bathed in blood but this was never mention at at the time and not for very many generations later so it is probably a falsehood.

Another theory is that she was a powerful women to whom the king of Hungary owed money and was conveniently sidetracked on a charge of murder and witchcraft and her dues from the king were canceled and her powers were usurped.

Nether will be whole true the truth will most certainly lie between the two.

  6. I just saw something on the history channel about her several months ago.  Whack job is the understatement of the century.  Just type her name into a search engine.  There is all sorts of info on her.
