Whos more clever horse or dog and whos more affectionate and loyal?

It seems to be a tie.  When horses were more commonly owned and used their loyalty,intelligence and affection was widely recognized.   Until the 1700's most dogs were working dogs, not pets and there loyalty was recognized  but they weren't considered especially affectionate because people did not treat them that way.  But as both became pets  and not working animals horses became relatively rare and pet dogs became more common so nowadays most people believe dogs are more loyal and affectionate.

I think dogs have an advantage in showing affection not because they are more so but because of their size.
