Felix Trinidad hands down was the best boxer from Puerto Rico in the history of the sport. His popularity though out Puerto Rico help give this small island a since pride and accomplishment through his youthfulness and charismatic attitude. During his championship tenor he help unite the Puerto Rican people and help them become interested in the sport of boxing. He was a great puncher and never back down from a fight. I think the Puerto Rican could relate with that and because of that he became the most revered boxer in Puerto Rico. His record of 42 wins 3 losses with 35 knock outs speaks for itself.

We all know Felix Trinidad is the most popular Puerto Rican Boxer But when its all said and done I think Miguel Cotto will be the greatest because of all the possible big names he can fight.

Followed by a close second, A name I unfortunately didnt see on this list Ivan "Iron Boy' Calderon (31-0) the WBO JUNIOR FLYWEIGHT Champ. The slickest and most  technically sound boxer. Unfortunately because of his weight class he doesnt get enough attention but for those boxing pureist or guys he like the Mayweather style of boxing. Check him out he fights Aug. 31 on Pay Per View

The first purto rican boxing super star that i remember is wilfredo benitez, he was a hero in his hometown and a respected boxer all over the world, however in terms of popularity none comes close to felix trinidad, he is to puerto rico what roberto duran is to panama and what cesar chavez is to mexico, in his prime he was an exciting fighter to watch and to many puerto rican kids he was like superman, even when he lost people still stood by him and whenever he won, there would be parties all over puerto rico, I have not seen that level of popularity in boxing in a very long time and it shows you how loyal puerto rican fans can be.

in my opinion there are several good boxers. they were all good in different aspects. in terms of popularity it has to be Felix Trinidad. he represented puerto rico and was a great champion. his flaw was his inability to fight fighters with very good technical skills. But his strength was his punching power, a welterweight that hit like a heavyweight.

My favourite would be Felix Trinidad but i would have to say that Wilfredo Gomez is the best puerto Rican boxer of alltime and Wilfred Benitez may well be second. Cotto is the best at the moment.
