Wladimir Klitschkof for the WBO and IBF and Samuel Peter for the WBC.  The WBA is vacant.

Right now, there is no current world heavyweight champion. What we have are three different titleholders:

IBF and WBO- Wladimir Klitschko

WBC- Samuel Peter

WBA- Ruslan Chagaev

In order for the lineal and Ring Magazine vacancy to be filled, the top 2 contenders must fight each other. Right now, the number one guy is Wladimir Klitschko and the number 2 guy is Samuel Peter. They have already fought once before with Klitschko winning a decision, but if the circumstances were completely different; if they were to fight again now it would be of the upmost importance and significance because it would give us the first true champion since Lennox Lewis retired. The problem is that Peter is going to face Wladimir's brother Vitali in his next fight; if Peter loses that fight, then we are pretty much screwed because the Klitschkos have repeatedly stated that they would never fight each other. Hopefully, Peter beats Vitali so that he can face Wladimir again to give us a real and true champion. If none of that works out, then the next best chance is that David Haye can clear up the division once he moves up.

it is still vacant as far as the world championship is concerned. all we have now are belt holders IBF/wbo Klitchsko, Wba Chageav, Wbc Peter. but they all are disputed champs at this point even though wlad is widely accepted, he has no lineage to the crown what so ever.
