I agree with you, Borg was the best. I used to like Jimmy Connors but these were better. I would have Sampras at number 2.

No doubt at the moment, Sampras still hold the record of the greatest Wimbledon player with 7 titles under his belt.  Even though Borg and Federer are tied at 5 titles and 1 runner-up each. I would give Borg a slightly edged over Federer due to his average results as Borg worst result has been 3rd round while Federer had lost in the 1st round 3 times early in his career.  It's really  a tough call between McEnroe and Becker.  I would rank Becker in 4th place with a better win loss record (Becker 71-12, McEnroe 58-11) and no of finals reached (Becker 7 finals compare to McEnroe 5)

Bjorn and Roger share the title in my opinion. Pete Sampras I think is just behind them.

I still recall many Wimbledon tourneys where Bjorn played the sport with such finesse and a few more with Theatrical Drama. (OH!  -  This honour goes to Johnny Mac.)

It has to be Sampras. You can go with the age old argument that Sampras has the most, but the best argument overall is that his game actually fit grass the best. A stronger serve than Federer (even at a time when raquets weren't as good), one of the best forhands of all time, and the fact that he could volley in grass.

Gotta say Federer. 5 wins in a row, 6 finals in a row, and Winning 2 out 3 Wimbledon finals against a guy named Rafael Nadal ain't a bad accomplishment at all.

i don't get it why so many say Borg. just look at the numbers - Sampras won Wimbledon 7 times (1993 - 1995, 1997 - 2000). i don't believe that this record will be beaten in the next 20 to 30 years (if ever).

so if you ask for the greatest Wimbledon singles player it's no doubt Pete Sampras (btw, this doesn't mean i consider him to be the best player ever).

all just an opinion of course, but you have to give number 1 slot to Borg just for the fact that when he was winning his titles, the opposition was of a much higher standard than it is now.
