Name your best player(s) in Rugby and why?

Mine are:

Mourie, an All Black flanker and captain from 1977-82, appearing in 21 tests (19 as captain) including the Grand Slam winning team of 1978.

Dan Carter and Richie McCaw, regarded as the worlds best players in there positions.

I have been very lucky to have seen such rugby players as meads (Both Colin & Stan), Kel tremain,Waka Nathan,Ian Kirkpatrick,Grizz Wyllie,Ken Gray,Bruce McLeod, Graham Mourie,Loverridge,Going,Laidlaw and the list goes on, then M Jones was one out of the box, as for Carter & McCaw, lets just wait because you can add in hayman,Jack, Olliver, Fitzty, Kelleher,Marshall Grant fox, Shelford, but I think I seen one of the top five loosie's ever has been playing over the last couple of years and that is Jerry Collins, man that boy is some player.

The TOP player will always be a personal choice and we cannot rate this player in 2007 to one even in 1987 let alone 1966.

My choice out of the lot would be Colin Meads, I just wonder what position he would have played in today's All Blacks, maybe No 6 BUT then again Jerry Collins is there, h**l ain't we lucky Kiwi's.

I reckon JPR Williams has to feature in there for me somewhere. There wasn't a high ball that man couldn't catch even when he was trampled by the opposition milli-seconds later. As for leadership and pure love for the game - Martin Johnson is a legend. He was so highly regarded by his team mates, especially during the time the game was going pro in the UK.

Richie McCaw is a legend for me as is Rokocoko. Man there are so many!

My favourite players are Bryan Habana, Schalk Burger, Os Durand and Victor Mattefield of S.A lets not forget Butch James, machine tackler and he comes from my high schools greatest rival. Bj botha Durban boys High or simply School and Butch James Pietermaritzburg boys High or simply college(cause im proudly S.A)

Johny Wilkinson is my favourite from England, he's a machine kicker

From Ireland its Stringer, I love to watch him get munched cause he's so small and when he comes off the field he's spot less clean

From NZL its Lomu because of the time I saw him step on the England dude after he bounced him and he is a tackle breaker

And from Australia its Sailor, I like to watch him get munched as well

its like impossible to pick your best player as there is and has been so many good players. one of the best past players has to be zinzan brook and johna lomu. and the best present present players, joe rokocoko, dan carter and richie mccaw.

but how can you posiibly pick your fave player, i mean there has been so many of them, espically from nz!!! :-)

Well I would say tana umaga and dan carter....

Dan carter can really kick man I mean he can nail a

50+ meter kick to the goal...

Tana Umaga can run with the ball man like he's unstopable....

Mine would Zinzan Brooke of old and of late it would Tony Woodcock Loosehead Prop NZ and Carl Hayman Tighthead Prop NZ.  Other than them it would have to be my son who plays for Mount Albert Grammar School 1st XV!
