First off, the 24-sec. shotclock was already in place in 1954. The 3 second rule was introduced in 1936. Illegal defense was already in place since 1947. Defensive goaltending was instituted way back during Mikan's college days. Offensive goaltending was instituted during Russell's senior year in college.

Wilt played in the NBA with all of these rules in effect. He was simply dominating. Lets not belittle his accomplishments by saying that he only dominated because "so and so" rule doesnt exist during his time.

And before i forgeot, he did not play in an era where the centers are a foot smaller than he is. The average height of centers in his time is 6'10". Wilt is only 7'1" (275lbs or so). Thats just a 3 inch difference. In contrast, Yao is 7'7" (310lbs.). He is 7 inches taller than your average today and he doesnt even come close in breaking any of Wilt's records.

Anyway, after clearing all of that misconception about Wilt, i have to say that Kareem is the better player for me. He has a better work ethic than Wilt.

Wilt Chamberlain. he dominated an era where the 3-second violation did not exist. since he was approximately half of a foot taller than everyone else, all needed to do was stand under the basket and wait for the pass.
